This past Sunday, Dan and I hit the woods for some good old colonial relic hunting. Little did I know that I would walk out of those woods with the best coin I have ever dug. It was one of those days that you will remember forever. We hit four holes in total and didn't have a lot to show for our efforts until we got to the third cellar hole. That's when it happened. I got a deep tone next to a tree and my detector locked on to a target that sounded faint but sweet.

I dug down about 8 inches and the target was still in the side of the hole. That was discouraging because usually if the object is in the side it's iron. I dug carefully behind the target and popped it loose. It was a coin. What kind of coin? I rubbed it. Does that say Mind your Business? I dug my very first Fugio Cent!!! Thank you Dan. Thank you so much! 5702957030

Donnie it took us a while but we found a spot that held a few keepers for us , congrats on your very nice coin :loveit:.

Not is it just a fugio but Donnie did a very nice job on cleaning it delicately and as it turned out to be a very scarce variety (Newman 16-H) with less than 50 nice known examples around in collections.

Huge congrats on that Fugio! That's been one of my favorite coin styles, and top of my bucket list though I'll never see one in my part of the country.

You walked out of there with some very nice finds of your own. That shoe buckle and those buttons were beautiful. Thanks for taking a picture of my big old grin holding my find. I think I'm still grinning!

Donnie, I've dug some Fugios and I've seen a lot of other dug Fugios ......but yours is a REAL beauty compared to most. Congrats on a great find.

Thanks. I am pretty sure that I can clean it up a little better around the devices and make it just a bit easier to read. I think I can do some work around the words "Mind Your Business" and make them a little clearer. I just have to work up enough nerve to start on it and I already know when to quit.

Congrats on your beautiful fugio. That thing is in awesome shape.:clapping:
Dan has a habit of taking friends to good sites.:detecting:
He hosted Digger Al, Hiluxyota and myself last march and we each found a 1700s coin.

It makes for a real nice avatar!!!
I, like DO'D, would love to find a Fugio! But the chances of finding one here in the Midwest is next to nil.
And it's in great shape too! Sweet!:groovy:
Congrats!

Yeah, I am so glad I thought to ask Dan to take my pic out in the woods after I found it! It will be my avatar for a long time!

I didn't know there was a Coin of the Month award but that would be a tough decision for me between a Mass Copper and a Fugio. I really want to find a Mass Copper. I love that coin and the Eagle on the back is totally awesome!

Congrats again on the Fugio, Donnie B. It's a dream find for sure...good luck on the coin of the month! My Mass Copper didn't make the cut. Just as well, because that Fugio is a slam dunk winner! GL and HH

Your Massachusetts Copper is spectacular, and the only reason it wasn't included in the Coin of the Month voting is because it wasn't clear if it was found in December. Your post mentioned "finds from this fall", so it wasn't really clear when it was found.

We did make sure that it was featured on the banner, as it is a very special find.

yes as Tony mentioned , finds have to be found and declared in the month to be eligible for that FOTM award.
