On Thursday I was generous enough to take the little lady on a 2 hour drive south of the border for her favorite food-Russel's BBQ! Anyone who's been in the region more than 5 minutes probably has at least heard of this landmark and it's reputation.
Anyway, once the lady was stuffed to the bursting point on fully satisfied I was able to easily convince her to stop at a park or two for detecting while there was still a couple hours of daylight. Without researching it was a shot in the dark hoping for an old park. The place I picked wasn't too far away and was just loaded to the hilt with mostly shallow quarters. But i got one hit of a 12-39 at 7 inches and pulled an almost quarter size green disk. It turned out to be the only deeper target of the rather short hunt.
Once I got back and got it cleaned up with much effort I found it was a bottle medallion from James Pepper whiskey. Research shows this was originally on a ribbon around the bottle neck and was on only used when James took control of the distillery and moved it to New York. The medallion dates from about 1878 to around 1906. Really cool find in my book!
