We have gotten some much needed rain the last few days so we decided to go out and detect at a couple of old house sites again. The first house has not given up anything really old despite its age, the yard has immense amounts of trash and iron and has had some fill in it in spots. The best thing found so far has been a Boy Scout shoe token which dates between 1914-1929. The rain did help as the signals were more clear and deeper. I found some bits of old brass and a almost complete cap gun. Amidst the iron I was a small signal of 12-44 to 12-46 on my CTX, shortening my swing to about an inch I was able to narrow down the spot. I dug the target and it was a large heavy copper disk. I could tell it had a hole at the top you could see the slight rim bulge indicating it was done after the object was made. I could see what appeared to be a Horsemen on the front and a crest on the back. After examining it a bit I thought perhaps it was a Canadian Bank Token, I was familiar with how the Montreal Bank Tokens looked but this one was different. After it dried out a bit I was able to see it was an One Penny Bank Of Upper Canada token dated 1850! Minted in England this token was issued to alleviate the coin shortage at the time in Canada. I found that the One Penny tokens are more scarce than the Half Cent tokens the One Penny has a mintage of 750,000.

We then moved on to another yard where last week I got a Large Cent. I got a solid 12-46 and thinking it may be another Large Cent it was a large copper but not a coin, I could not identify it there but after cleaning it turned out to be a Souvenir Medal from the Jamestown Tercentennial Exposition in 1907. This Exposition was similar to a lot of World Fair types of exhibits where gold medals were presented to those exhibits of new products won in their categories. This Souvenir was presented to Exposition attendees by the Champion Potato Machinery Co of Hammond Indiana to commemorate their winning for their machinery.

The next find was an 1883 Indian Head. We were invited back again to this site and we are looking forward to more good finds.

Congrats on some great finds Tony! That coin with St. George slaying the dragon is a real beauty. I also like the souvenir medal too. I never even heard of a tercentennial here in the USA! Thanks for sharing and HH, Dave.

Congrats on those keepers. Love the bank token and that medal is so cool. We need some serious rain here in the NE, hopefully Sunday.
