This is the third straight day midas and I have gone shallow water detecting, hitting the same lake from early morning to almost noon. This time I waded out deeper than the last two hunts, detecting in water up to my neck, and it paid off big time! I scored with two gold rings and several other sterling silver and brass rings. As far as coins, I managed 30 silver coins, six of them Walking Liberty Halves, plus a good amount of old nickels and wheat cents. Today's silver coins bring my total for the year to 604.

The Walking Liberty halves are dated 1919-S, 1934, 1943, 1943, 1944, and 1945.

I picked up two Standing Liberty and six Washington quarters. They are dated 19??, 1927, 1939, 1942, 1943, 1945, 1946, and 1960-D.

http://www.angellionel.com/myfinds/2010/August/silverquarters_080910.jpg

There are sixteen dimes - one Barber, ten mercury, and five Roosevelt. They are dated 1902, 1918, 1925, 1925, 1940, 1940-D, 1941, 1942, 1945, 1945, 1945, 1950, 1950, 1950, 1952, and 1957.

The eleven buffalo nickels are dated 19??, 1916, 1919, 1920, 1927, 1928, 1935, 1936, 1936, 1936, and 1937.

I also found two V nickels and three wartime silver nickels. They are dated 1900, 1907, 1943-P, 1943-S, and 1943-S. I don't count the silver nickels as part of my silver total.

The Jefferson nickels are dated in the 30's and 40's.

I haven't looked at the dates on the wheat cents, but I'm hoping for some good old ones. There are twenty six in the photo.

As far as rings, I picked up nine - two gold, 18k and 10k, five sterling silver, and two brass.

There were plenty of religious pendants too.

This sterling silver bracelet is hefty.

I like this old pin.

And here are the miscellaneous items.

Was that you out there with the big dredge? Wow 30 silvers...that has to be your new record. I can see it now...all you can see is someone's head sticking out of the water with a constant gin on it  Kinda hard to do a happy dance in the water. Congrats on a super hunt, even for Angel  I'm all :envious: :envious: :envious:

OMG!!! :shocked04:

Even I can't believe this. I need to get in the water!!!

I can't BELIEVE how many religious pendants you find in one hunt!!

What an incredible assortment of finds. That is an absolutely amazing day. Congrats on the silver and gold!!

BTW, how are you now going to dig up just twelve or thirteen silvers at a time with the poor neglected E-Trac?

Thanks, Angie. :)

My E-Trac is not neglected... it's just taking a short vacation. And finding a couple of silver coins with it at the parks will still be fun.

Congratulations Angel on such a successful hunt with such wonderful finds! The toning on those buffs is amazing! The colors really are beautiful. I guess the good thing about hunting in neck-deep water is you never have to take a pee break :peace:

I will be using this method (http://www.americandetectorist.com/forum/showthread.php?696-Method-To-Remove-Sulfide-From-Silver).

Which reminds me... I better get to the supermarket to pick up several boxes of baking soda and some aluminum foil.

 Just don't drink any liquids before getting into the water.

Holy cow that's a lot of Walkers to find in a day!
I've been eagerly waiting for your silver finds over in the dirt hunter's side of the forum... Glad I took a peek over in Beaches, Ponds, and Lakes.

Thanks, Stang! :thumbsup01:

Well, I removed the sulfide from the Walking Liberty halves using the baking soda and aluminum method (http://www.americandetectorist.com/forum/showthread.php?696-Method-To-Remove-Sulfide-From-Silver). It took four attempts before the thick sulfide peeled off from the halves. They look fairly decent now while still showing some of the leftover tarnish. :smitten: Removing the sulfide also revealed that the 1919 Walker has an 'S' mint mark. Not as low mintage as the 1919, but still a nice one to have.

MAN! Looks to me like you've got an unhunted swimming hole!
Awesome!

BTW... thought of you today when I was out there in the water. I stepped into the water and the words Shallow and Silver struck me.
Beautiful coins!

You really can find silver! Congrats.

I'll bet $10 you could probably pull a few Barber's and Mercs from the potted plants and flowers around my house... inside and out!

Keep at it!
