I made a last minute decision this morning to get out before the rain , this was a new site i've been wanting to try and for the few hours I was I thought I did pretty well. This was a nice looking "older" type cellar with the stone was very collapsed but a bit larger than most .

My first solid target was this nicely ornate framed shoe buckle , its a bit on the smaller side with not much curvature and the tongue is very thick and stout . It looks like an early mid 1700's era type to me that was repaired at some point the brass "chape" must of given away and a stronger iron one was fitted for it . one picture is just out of the hole and the other later when i cleaned most of the dirt out of it .

My second good target was a small holed coin that i thought was a farthing at first but turned out to be one of my oldest coins , a 1655 French Liard .

shortly after i got another coin that was turned into a button .then a very very worn King George copper .

After few hours the rain cam and chased me out but i'll be back when the foliage falls away and opens the area some more.

HH all .

That's a great hunt, Dan!:wow: I was thinking of going out this morning but just didn't pull the trigger. That's one oldie of a copper! In good shape too...for its age. Big congrats!! :clapping:

Very nice hunt Dan, great finds! Love those old coins. Too bad the chances of finding one of those in the midwest would be like finding bigfoot.

Always love the anticipation when you first arrive at a new site. Congrats on the very early targets and the shoe buckle is a nice one indeed. A coin from 1655? That's crazy Dan.

Thanks John , I have many single sites although I usually hunt the multi site areas most because of a hunting partner . So i usually hit these single ones because I don't mind spending all day at just one.

I put a bit of wax on the buckle and then gave it a good buffing with a horse hair brush . It really made the patina and the design come alive .

Thanks Jeff , the liard is the first one i've found :cheering:and is the oldest coin i have as well . I admit I love complete shoe buckles more than most coins  , to me they are just more of a personal item .

the small holed (button) coin is actually a very worn U.S. Half cent , after cleaning it and applying the ren wax I can just make out the top reeded edge and the top of the letters B E R for the word "Liberty" .

Congrats Dan! love those old shoe buckles. We were at a softball tournament this weekend in Somerset Mass. On our way to the fields I saw a park with a old stone wall around it. Wish I brought my detector, I could have snuck off in between games...

Nice buckle Dan. Even if the iron was a repair, Obvi it still didn't help it form falling off again and being lost. I was surprised the guy who lives across from the country club near me said he found a lIard in his prop before. The house is 1890s and across is only 1840. I was out in the rain. It was the thunder that scared me away.

I think I might have to send the machine in. The second coil I got overloads the machine. The guy said the first one I sent back did overload the coinmaster, but he tested the second one before I he sent it to me. The machine did act funny for a bit on Tgiving weekend, but since then It's been fine. It's been giving numbers that I expect for finds. It was acting a little odd Saturday too with the wet ground. Maybe something is wrong with the tracking feature..?? I know it was a little hard to pinpoint and determine cuz the second site (I spent 20 min at one off a currently used road before the rain really came and the thunder that followed) I hit was really trashy. But I know the third site I had just dug something and picked the machine up and it was jumping all over the place. There are no dog fences or power lines in the middle of the woods...
