Bell-Two

I have been curious about the XP Deus for awhile so I borrowed one from a friend to try out. I had gotten a lot of information from my friend Todd Yerks and while not knowing a lot about it I thought it was worth a chance.

I wanted to try it in a couple of fields where signals for my CTX and Diane’s E-Trac had gotten scarce, just a lot of iron and occasional bits like harmonica reeds and bits of brass and copper. Since this week might be the last shot at the fields, the farmers are really starting to plant; I thought this was an opportune time.
Our first stop was a field where we had gotten some nice finds but the last two times nothing much. I took the Deus and my first signal was giving some high tones but something about the sound suggested to me it was iron, I dug it just to confirm my thinking. I was correct it was a chunk of rusted iron about 5” deep. My next signal was a 64 on the Deus and not being familiar with what target ID was on this machine I had Diane come over and check it with her E-Trac. She got a jumpy 12-21 and I was not surprised to see a shotgun head stamp. Coming back down a row and next to the cornstalks I got a banging 93-95 signal and very solid and good tone. I was thinking this may be a good target even perhaps a Large Cent. Diane was way over at the other end of the field so I went ahead and dug it and I was right, a real toasty 1845!

Now I am very sure the CTX would have picked this signal up it was very solid, the weather has beaten down a lot of the stalks and so I think it was just a spot none of us had got the coil over. Nevertheless it is always a good feeling when using a new machine to make a good find.
We then went on to another field that too had given up a lot of keepers, this bean field would be a good test. I spent about an hour and only dug a few miscellaneous bits of copper and brass, so this test of the Deus was inconclusive for me. Meanwhile Diane was across the road at our old school house site which has given us a lot of Indian Heads and other good coins and relics. Her trusty E-Trac came through for her as she got two crusty coins an 1896 Indian and a no date V-Nickel.

While I am impressed with the many adjustments that can be made on the Deus and the lightness of weight I will have to try it out some more to come to a conclusion. Though it would not be surprising for me to have one in my arsenal in the future it is not a done deal as of yet….maybe! lol!
