Managed to get out at lunchtime to an old iron-infested site in the woods that has given up large coppers in the past. I've had 3 other machines in there in the past, and this was the first spin in there with the E-Trac.

First target was a rough recovery, about 6-7 inches down thru several roots -- and when I saw the edge of it, almost bailed as it looked like a canslaw or other junk, but I've never seen deep canslaw at this old site, so I worked thru the roots and it was this big silver thing (actual size relative to the quarter), I'm not sure what it is; its not a brooch or pendant, but I don't think it is a coin either. Has 3 hallmarks on the back -- the one says it is .875 silver, the other is of a bear, and the third is of some sort of bird. I'm guessing it is Swiss, whatever it is, based on the marks. Could be about 100 years old, could be newer, I guess. (The scans didn't come out great cause it's bent (its pretty thin)). Also is stamped J 137073 -- don't know what that is about.

Also pulled the quarter -- it was directly on edge and right under an iron nail. Amazing. Once I got the iron out of the way, it rang more like a half dollar or silver dollar for some reason -- I'm thinking 1700s site, big half dollar/silver dollar sound, but it was not to be. Also pulled a badly corroded wheat as the only other coin of the hunt.

Very cool!
Looks like excellent results for a new-to-you machine.
I may have to get me one of those E-tracs. :thinkingabout:

That's the first thing I thought of too. I think even the serial numbers came on them also. Nice hunt with the E Trac. Look at the size of them targets, and that will give you an idea of how many good targets remain that are masked out by iron  I would be in heaven if some technology came along that would truely not even see iron. Then all those sites would light up like a Christmas tree lol Great hunt and congrats on that silver.

That large disk is such a neat find. It's a good thing that you didn't give up on it. :shocked01: The quarter must have been singing to you.

Hey Randy, I use to big into watches and clocks (well still am actually) and you can find all the info on Pocketwatchs by putting in their serial number, when they were made, how many from what time range etc.
I just took a shot at being an Elgin watch as they were one of the leading watchmakers.. and got it on the first shot
