Finally another old coin

So we've had our detectors for about three months now, AT Pro, and Whites Treasure Pro. Half of that time the ground has been frozen and snow covered. So really we've only been detecting for about 6-7 weeks. I found an 1889 Indian we put up pictures of back in December. Yesterday we took the machines to the local school yard and my 16 year old daughter found a buffalo nickle. It's pretty toasty, can't even get a date off of it, but she was very happy. The girls have been having a bit of trouble learning the machines, and finding the targets after they get a hit. I think it's the digging part that's hard for them, it's not easy. So I'll need to find some digging tools that work better for them. 5286152862

Congrats on the Buff! Nickels are more difficult than other coins in my opinion because there is a lot of trash that rings up similar to nickels. Well done!

Nickels are always the least found because a lot of people just skip over them. Dont want to dig trash to get a nickel.

Nice buff! I almost want to say that it is a 1913, because the back has a raised ground, which was for only one year. :D Always dig those nickel tones, I have found so many old nickels at places that people have cherry picked. HH!

I enjoy using both machines. They seem to get similar depth, and the Whites has multiple tones to assist in identification. But the Whites does not visually show depth very well, and being newbies that has been important to us and learning what we're doing. Everyone wants to use the AT Pro, because of all of the information it offers. I have been using the machine on Pro settings to again help me get good at hearing tones, and understanding what kind of metal is down there and how deep. Even though, depending on the object of course, the AT Pro is usually very accurate in it's depth indicator, both in search mode and pin point. The whites has automatic ground balance, which we sometimes forget to use on the AT Pro, but we're usually searching in the same type of soils.
So the Whites seems to find just as many targets, it's just somewhat more labor some to get them out of the ground. I feel the AT Pro, I can hit targets, and get them out of the ground much faster and move on. I'm hopeful that by doing so I will eventually hit some good targets, as yet we have yet found NO silver. We've got some good permissions to hunt once the snow melts, so I remain hopeful there are some really fun targets in our future, getting a bit tired of nothing but clad, with the exception of our 1889 Indian, and this buff. This is Mrs. MI Detectors, Dave said I should give you my opinion as well. Both do an excellent job of finding tiny pieces of metal way down deep. I like the display on the White's that identifies the target (tentatively) with "FOIL" "DIME" etc in addition to the segment at the top. With the AT Pro you have to read a small graph. I also like the back-light option with Treasure Pro. We hunt a lot of land that's been farmed a long time, tons of iron. The iron audio on the AT Pro is great, White's doesn't have that feature. With the AT I have to take the headphones off every time I dig because cord is way to short. I don't usually use the headphones with the White's because I like their multiple tones and don't find the headphones help. I have a feeling that when we hunt in the summer we aren't going to want to wear headphones, so that's a huge plus. The continuous hum the White's makes on it's coin jewelry program is annoying but we use it anyway.
