My first pre 1800s, and I basically skipped the entire 1700s with a William III Shilling! (1695-1701) http://tnet.forumfoundry.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue3.gif It certainly shows the wear from being around a very long time, but I'll take it. Even a little countermark as a bonus.

Going the entire Fall without a single early silver coin it was damn good seeing it stuck to my shovel. I took the pic and even sent a text before I picked it up to see what it was. Gotta enjoy it when it's the only one. :)

Nice finds. At least there's enough detail to tell what kind of coin it is. What was the purpose of a countermark?

I know the feeling. Had mine this year too. A 1696 William III shilling in NY State. INCREDIBLE FEELING !! And it was the last find of the day for me. Super glad for you. Thanks for sharing.
