Series of Micro Hunts

Since Thanksgiving, I've only been able to get out for very short periods. A few fields, my daughter's house, and some parks (!). I haven't done many parks and have a new appreciation for the trials and travails of the park hunters. :notworthy: I found I had to look at the screen THE WHOLE TIME :lol: What a drag:shocked04::lol:

I quickly decided to only dig...
-things over 80 on a 100 scale
-things 6in and deeper
-solid 58s/nickles

I dug more wheats than I've ever dug before...three mercs...and a very cool WW2 E for Production pin that some worker earned providing supplies for our fighting troops. Wheats are 1910-45.

Funny thing....I was hitting a football field that my band used to perform on in the 90s....I found a finger cap for a trumpet...it's conceivable that one of my students dropped it :shocked01:

2nd funny thing...on that same field, at 2 inches, I'm thinking I'm digging a nickel signal...it was a 1700s tombac:yes:

My usual fields produced the SWEET coronet :happydance02:

That old Merry Widows case was found at my daughter's house :shocked04::lol:

That is a sharp coronet Drew. Cool WWII pin too. Yes, hats off to the park hunters. After trying it once or twice I decided it is a LOT easier to hunt in the woods!

Some great finds Drew! :congrats: As for park hunting, you have only just touched the peak of the iceberg-wait until you have to deal with pulltabs and foil so thick it's like a solid carpet of metal just below the surface with the occasional coin on edge in between! :shocked04: So I envy you East coast guys who have those great cellar holes to hunt and likely find more large cents in a week than are lost in the whole state of Wisconsin! :lol:

Nice largie, Drew. Have you gotten a 3MW tins before, or did you make it into the club just now? The musket came from the field too? Nice little hunts. Guess these were the types of hunts where it produced at the start, so you bypassed the hours of swinging with the let down of nothing else to dig.

I have to agree highly with this. If the site was gone before the early 20's we might get lucky someone didn't use it as a trash dump. Parks have a lot more people and therefore a lot more coins were dropped along the years. It's just also masked by all the trash and anyone can detect there at their leisure. Prob why I had to change the strategy when doing more woods hunting and dig anything non-ferrous. Yeah....try that approach at a park :rofl: Lol, Drew. At least you don't have to watch out for trees and brush and open wells while staring at your screen detecting in a park.

Great job Drew, and a nice mix of finds from several eras. LC came out in great shape! Those athletic fields can sure surprise can't they? I've found several old relics from a soccer field near my house.

Jim, I found a few complete MW cases, this one is only the top. The musket was found in the woods around my neighborhood. The copper was found in a current farm field, which is surprising. It doesn't have any fertilizer wear on it.
John, I had already passed on hundreds of signals in the 50s when I hit that tombac button. It was high 50s unwavering...so I was hoping for a buff. Amazing how things can sit in the dirt as humans change and rechange the area around it.
