Silver milestone hi-lited by big silver

As planned the weather was nice so I got two long hunts in yesterday and today. Yesterday I made a road trip to another park that showed evidence of a ballfield that was present in the 30's but just open grass today. the research was right as I found a handful of older coins right where the picture showed the field but the coins were scarce. Managed a couple of wheats and 2 Rosies which brought me to 798 for 4 years of hunting. Today was the perfect day so I headed to the ballfield only 10 or so miles from my house in hopes of hitting 800. Things were going a little slow with a couple of wheats and some clad. I headed out to the outfield and things continued to be slow. I got a decent 12-44 with a little depth and dug a late '60's dime. Just 6" to the left I got what looked like the same signal only a tad shallower. Pulled the plug and loosened some dirt in the hole and saw big silver. This was a 12-44 so I was not expecting silver much less a half. When I wiped the dirt off I could not believe it was a Barber. I have not found one of those in 40+ years. I filled the plug and got a weak signal between the Barber half and where I found the clad dime. This coin was a tad deeper and turned out to be a Merc and number 800. Took a while but two iffy signals got me to the milestone. Hunted a bit more and managed another Merc. All in all a great hunt. If the weather holds I may get a few more hunts in but I am ready for hibernation now as that was a great finish. Keep swinging Wisconsin Digger

Great day, great way to finish the season! Love that half, and the rest of the keepers too! Lets just hope for a few "post season" days yet this year. Come on El Niño!! :lol:

Gongrats. Not gloating here, but I was lucky to cross this off the list earlier than 40 years. You sure got me beat on silver, tho. I'm not ready to end yet for the season..no strong finish yet. Last time I was at least able to make it to Jan2 and score my first matron.
