Trooper Bri and I hit a coupe of sites yesterday in the chilly New England air , with the temps being very cool and all the foliage off the trees and brush makes for a very enjoyable time to detect and look for those elusive new sites. The first site we hit is an older site we detected (for just a couple of hours) a few weeks ago but from some were quality finds . it deserved another round of swinging plus we located a small cabin type dwelling down the hill from it , it wasn't far from there where i first got a large colonial dandy button . :happydance01:this is when i slowed down and focused more and about 10 yards away got another good hit . Boy was i pleased to see a small disk of silver in the hole and quickly yelled to Brian ,"hey I got a silver coin":bananadance:

a nice 1778 Spanish half real (war era money) :yahoo:

Soon after i was gridding the area the best i could , which is difficult due to cut trees , brush and fallen branches. But soon i hit two more buttons (a small flat one and another designed dandy) and then got another sweet sounding coin-like target and after digging 7 inches a large copper disk shown itself :happydance01:.

not a bad haul for the first stop

the second stop was a cabin site that was very choked off with ferns earlier in the year , unfortunately we did a pretty good job of finding everything last visit . I did get a possible merchant token that had the name Brooks stamped into it (its in the above picture on the lower right) and here it is cleaned up with the real .

the last stops were at close by sites that were pretty hammered to death where i only squeaked out a couple of saddle strap guide escutcheons .

Here are the real and the copper cleaned up , while the copper there is an improvement its still a bit rough but i was able to get a 1734 date .

Way to go Dan on pulling more nice finds from these hunted sites. Agree this is my favorite time of year to hunt with the cool temperatures and no bugs. Only issue at this point is avoiding the hunters and using a bit more arm strength to swing through all the newly fallen leaves. Love the coins and the 1/2 reale really cleaned up nicely! The Brooks merchant token nearly ranks as good IMO though since it's likely just as unique. Hopefully Bri found a few keepers as well.

Very nice hunt! That real is sweet, but too bad the copper is so toasty. Still nice though. Congrats! Lucky you don't have snow yet.

John

yes John , seems like the hunters get to the spots first , boy they give us some puzzled looks when they see us  . I agree the leaves can be pretty deep in some spots . thanks

Great coins! Congrats on a solid hunt!

Thank you Isaac you are having quite the year !!:notworthy:

That's great digging Dan. Love the Reale

Jim , i think your odds of getting one soon are very very good , thank you.

Killer hunt Dan!

Thank you PT , you've been doing very well this year , looking toward seeing your "end of the year totals " after the white stuff keeps us from detecting .

Nicely done Dan! Wish I was out this weekend:daydream:

Roger it was a nice Saturday to be out , perfect temps for a bit of hiking . hope you get some more chances before the snow falls . Thanks

Actually DOD , the copper I would still call "decent" condition wise better than most , I can just about read all the legends and the date . I hope you get some warmer temps to sneak out one or twice more . Thank you.

Nice going Dan , great stuff !!:congrats:

Thank you George !!

Thanks Brian , i was just lucky to hit a "hotspot" in that area and worked it pretty well . I was pleased to see the token clean up nice too , it looked rough after it came out of the ground .

Al the real was a very nice surprise and i found one (1782) at that site years ago in another area , i don't find them very often like Dave or Drew . the Token was a very very low vdi and I was sure it was going to be a pewter or tombac button. Thanks Al

Thanks Jeff , Its especially nice when you find them early in the day . It takes all the pressure off ya

Thanks Brian , I was long over due to find the real !! its been years and years since my last one.

Tony , the King George is a half penny and most likely dropped early from when the earlier cabin was being used as the larger cellar looks late 1700's from it layout and a coin like this would probably have way more wear if dropped then. Thanks Tony

Nice score, Dan. Finally I get to see some cleaned up pics. I only got the dug pics, but just like with me, I understand it is quicker and easier to just do a quick upload after its dug to the FB group. Here involves a little typing for some description and then an uploaded for pics, and then arranging.

So, you scored the same coin as I got last time we were out; a 1734 KGII. Altho mine might be counterfeit. I'm long overdue for a reale too. The token is unique and I wonder what the Brooks merchant did.

Great finds Dan! Maybe that Brooks thing is a Brooks Club gaming token.

I have yet to see an example of a Brooks token online anywhere but there is one or two listed on the counter stamped coin database .Thanks Jim

Now that would be interesting and does fit in with the time period too but how would a "gentlemen's club" token from England get in the hands of a poor farmer here in the colonies ??? I can't find any of their gaming pieces or tokens any where either !! Thanks Drew
