November 14-16 – It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to detect three days in a row. Saturday started out cold and windy so I headed out to scout some fields. I saw a property owner that I’ve been trying to catch up with out by one of his barns so I stopped in. After a long chat about everything and anything I was able to get permission on a field my father use to call the “flats”. This area was busy with pre Rev War activity and the field to the north (different owner) was one of the first colonial settlements in our area. So, seeing I didn’t have permission yet for the settlement field the one next to it should hold some promise of colonial relics. I detected for a couple of hours and found nothing but beer cans along the entrance road and the main field was very quiet on the 3030. I made another trip along the road path and dug a no date KG II and about 10 yards away another good signal ended up being a impacted musket ball. The field is about 5 acres and after spending about 3 hours there only turned up those two targets. There were no signs of bricks, pottery or any other colonial surface finds.

Sunday morning I decided to head out to the “muck” field where I found the KG Farthing last weekend. This field over the last three years has produced several colonial and 19th century buttons, KG’s, a reale and musket balls. This area is ripe with Rev War activity and heavily traveled through the early 1900’s. Today turned up a couple more buttons and balls. On my way back home I stopped back at the “flats” to give it another shot and came up empty.

Monday started off with an early doctor’s appointment for me and an ortho appointment for my daughter. I took the day off and after getting Natalie to school I met with my cousin and we headed back to the “flats” to give it another shot. After about three hours my cousin found a ball and I only had a couple of lead pieces in my good pouch. We decided to stop for a quick lunch and head to another field about 20 minutes away. Unfortunately once we got there we found the field had not been cut and the hay was about knee high. Off to one of our fall back fields “Walsh Farm” which is about 60 acres. This property has produced a wide range of finds from the Rev War right up to early 1900’s. I finished with a couple of buttons, unfortunately the tombac was broke, a boy scout slide, small musketballs, and a pure lead ingot that weighs about 10 pounds.

Three days of detecting..:thumbsup02: and I hope you found that 10lb ingot at the end of the hunt and didn't have to carry it around with you all day...

The area is ripe for some great keepers. :congrats:on your KG, buttons and balls.

That lead ingot could have some real history-maybe research the logo cast into it? Definitely not a modern ingot shape. Congrats on the nice finds!

I was about 400 yards away from the truck. Ended up detecting for about an hour with it in my pouch before I had enough and worked my way back.

Nice assortment of finds Brian and keep up the hard work. You've obviously got the determined mindset of a seasoned detectorist! I'd check out the logo stamped onto the top of the large lead as well. May prove interesting.

Thanks Digger! I did a quick google search and didn't really find any history on it.
