October 31, 2015 – I took my brother-in-law who was home for the weekend out to an old farm I hadn’t been to since last year. The fields were tilled in the spring so I was hoping that new targets were ready to be found. My b-i-l found a big plain dandy button to start off the hunt. It was slow going for me at first. My first good find turned out to be an old trappers tag with a name on it. When I showed the owner of the farm he said “hey that’s my grand pa”. So of course I gave him the tag. Later as I was heading out of the field and towards the main front lawn I got a clear 12-41 on the ctx. Cut the plug and only about two inches down in the plug was my first half real this year. I believe it is 1786. About 10 more steps and a sold 12-38, again only a few inches down in the plug was a 1899 IH penny. Ended the day with a nice little script button (no b/m) and a ’46 Jefferson nickel from the front lawn.

Great Chief! That's some serious old silver! Go over to the contest section and write how you gave the guy his grandpa's trapper tag.

Too bad you didn't get a pic of the trapper tag before you handed it off. A nice gesture. Let's see if it gets suggested to go into the kindness contest. Grats on the old silver. Still something I haven't yet achieved. It looks a bit hammered making me think it was from a road vs in the middle of a field expecting tilling to either fold a coin or chop it.

I usually take pics at the end of the hunt or when I get home. It was an instant reaction to give him the tag and never thought about a pic until later. Your right about the reale, found it about 10 yards off the roadside.

I talked with him again yesterday and once he told his grand mother she came right down to the farm to see it. Amazing that a little copper/brass tag brought some joy and memories back. I found a gold locket last fall in the front yard that belonged to his grand mother and gave that back to the family as well. It was good to find some things for the family as they have been incredible hosts allowing me free reign of their property. Now if I can only find his plow attachment he lost last year.

Huge :congrats:on getting that trapper tag back to the family, it's all goodwill toward the hobby. The Spanish silver was your reward for that act of kindness. :thumbsup01:
