Went back to the old park this morning.. ended up being a decent day with cool breezes...
The first couple hours went pretty slow with very little finds, so I headed back to an area I did last week and detected it again going the opposite grid.
My big find for the day was a 1778 George II Half Penny, along with a few wheaties, 1941S mercury, 1944 Mercury, 1951 Rosie, and an old cuff link.

Now it's time for cool refreshing beer :beerbuddy:

You are having a great time at that park, Scott. You should be able to make a good dent on the silver. lol That old copper is one sweet find too. thumbsup01

Nice scores again Scott. The silver is nice and that onyx piece is real nice too. Is it (or was it) a ring? I've seen that design, and it usually was gold outlined. As for the George II, it may be another date. I think they made the George II's from 1729 - 1754. So yours is probably earlier than 1778. It may be a 1738 since the 3's had a flat top to them. If you can clearly see 1778, the it's one of the many counterfeits (which is better ) Great hunt and congrats on sneaking them out after all these years of being walked on lol

Hey George,
the Onyx piece is a cuff link, you can't see it in the photo but it has a post on the back..

As for the George II , your knowledge is sooooo welcomed.. even though your always making me second guess myself.. rofl , as I can not see the complete second 7 I just assumed that the top part match the 7 in 17 that it is 1778, but you are right it very well may be the top of the 3 not 7, either way, just finding coins in the 1700s is soooo nice and to believe I just found my first one only a week ago..

lol Sorry about that, but I may have just added 40 years to that find lol

They are very addicting. They always look so much rarer that they really are lol I find my happiest is when I bounce between colonial coppers and park silver. Now if I could just figure out a way to have more detecting time

very nice hunt Scott , i concur with Coinnut on the copper . a 1778 date would make it a George the III and the bust would be facing the other way . it looks like it is in very nice shape with alot of datail congrats on the finds . its good to see you finding some old coinage .
