Token with a swastika

Went to the local elementary school to hunt while my daughter was in band practice. The first signal I had came up as 80 on my f2 so I thought it would be a quarter. It was about four inches down and when I got it out of the hole I could tell it wasn't a quarter but could see any detail on it. So I put it in my pocket until I got home and tried to clean it up. First detail I could make out was a swastika and the words good luck under it. Some more work on it and I could see the words Membership emblem of the do not worry club. The other side of the token said Worcester salt. So I researched that and found out that until Hitler took the swastika for the Nazi party, it had been a symbol of good luck. Sorry the picture didn't turn out but maybe somebody can help with some ideas on how to clean it better would be appreciated.

Wow Dennis, great find! Yes, you are correct about Hitler.Apparently he was very much into the occult, mythology and Paganism among other things. He believed that using the old symbols would bring him luck and good fortune. Unfortunately his use of these symbols spoiled their original meaning and instead bring about feelings of fear and hatred.
But, as you can see between the spokes of the swastika are the horseshoe, 4 leaf clover, wishbone, and Egyptian symbols (for luck, I believe). But from what I hear is that almost all these tokens were lost or destroyed once the swastika took on Hitler's overture. I don't know the date, but would guesstimate the 20's or 30's region maybe? There was a big revival in interest in the occult during this time.

From what I've read is the Worcester salt ones were minted in the twenties

That's a cool find. The swastika has an interesting history. I've always liked the shape per se. Too bad Hitler forever altered its meaning. At least his was (almost) always rotated a few degrees which helps to distinguish it.

Nice token. The swastika was used for quite a long time throughout history. I wonder if this was where it originated the notion about being bad luck from spilling the salt.
