Went out today hoping to find new ground. Found a very nice looking park but looks to have been pounded pretty good with plenty of current sign it still is getting hunted. Only managed 1 wheat at plenty of gas money. Spent some time visiting relatives and hit an old school I hunted last week. Was heading back to my car with a handful of more gas money. When I got to the car I headed up a little embankment and got a fairly shallow signal that was bouncing a round between 44 on up to 46. Figuring on another memorial I dug a shallow plug and started jabbing around. I saw a coin and picked it up and my stomach jumped a bit as it looked to clean to be just a dime. Again, not being careful I rubbed it off and seen what looked like the back of an old Canadian coin, wrong again. Coin turned out to be a pretty nice looking 6 pence from 1857 Queen Victoria. You just never know what's coming out of the whole. great end to the day. Keep digging Wisconsin Digger

...That's the motto of MD. You never know what you will find. I have a few schools that are in old areas of town(s) to check. I haven't gotten to them as they are like back-ups in case. I figure those too are not places that would be thought to be checked. Congrats on the old silver.

Great find! I find school and churchyards have a higher than average chance at unusual finds. I always explained it as kids bringing old stuff for show and tell, then losing it. Who knows?

I agree I think that is exactly how this coin got lost as it was completely out of place. Thx WD

What an incredible find! Silver coins from 1857 don't turn up often. That one is soon to be 160 years old! :thumbsup02:
