My house is for sale and was being shown this evening, so to kill some time I just drove around town. When I went past our old grade school I noticed that they had torn out the old sidewalks.
Luckily I had my E-Trac in the trunk of my car. :thumbsup01:
In about an hour I found 2 wheat cents, 2 Buffalo Nickels and an 1894 Barber Quarter, plus some modern clad.

First, our house is for sale too. I hope your selling/buying is less stressful than ours. Second, I LOVE that quarter! What a great unexpected hunt.

Sweet Barber! I wish they tore out sidewalks like that here in upstate NY... in the city i live in they fill it within an hour of tearing it out... great saves!

A great job of taking advantage of an opportunity . Nice finds Tony .Good luck to you and Skamaniac on selling your homes . I can imagine the stress . I'm glad I bought this house many years ago . I could never afford it at todays rates and it is not a lavish home .

Even got yourself a harmonica reed. I know roads in the US got paved around 1909 but I wonder when sidewalks started appearing. I know of one specific sidewalk that is still original with slate blocks. Boy would it be nice to have those come up to detect underneath. Nice silver and good the buffs got dates.

Nice haul Tony, great looking Barber. I bet you were drooling when you saw that tear out. I know I would have been. Great job. I suspect you'll be going back there, keep us posted.

Way to keep those eyes open and take advantage of the tear up. I see that so often driving around and never bother to detect. Great finds Tony WD

Congrats Tony and nice to see you capitalized on the opportunity. Barber Q worn enough to make me think it was dropped in the early 1900s, similar dates to the old wheats you found.

The Barber Quarter was actually in the same hole with one of the 1920 Buffalo Nickels.
