My first Barber 1900. It is rough looking. Has pitting. My Buff is a 1920. I saw the date briefly. Anybody have pitting problems with silver in red soil?48627

Nice finds nalc! Can't see the date on the Buff in the photo, but feel lucky you found it in good enough condition to read it! :)
Don't know anything about red soil-here in the North I have red clay, swampland. and black sand by the great lakes.

Our clad silver turns red for some reason. We do have areas with red soil from the red shale but I can't say that I have ever pulled silver from it. From the pic it just looks like from circulation. Not only do coins get worn from circulation. idk how many I have pulled up that look like someone chewed on them. Nice score on the barber tho.
