Moderating is not something many are willing to do. While there are a lot of people that hold the title on various forums ,it is hard to find a true moderator. Anyone can threaten to report or ban a member but finding one willing to moderate what a forum states it allows is rare.

I'm not so quick to give attaboys. You will have to earn an honest opinion based on performance. A puppet on a string is not a moderator so I encourage you to actually moderate. Good luck and I will be watching.

I don't think I have to earn an honest opinion, I hope you'll just give it. Now I do have to earn a positive opinion and that is my goal :thumbsup01:

My honest opinion is that this site did no need another moderator unless it is going to allow issues that effect the hobby to be discussed. What this site needs is more categories other than the " show and tell " type. I've seen people come to other sites with a thread showing how they door knocked with 3 people. they posted a picture of the rookie with a shovel. No one said that it didn't look good on the hobby with 3 people door knocking till they get a yes and digging people' s yards with knee pads on and carrying shovels.

When I see someone come on a forum and say they got run out of the park I think a person should ask how they were detecting. Unfortunately it gets into a "I have my rights " issue and people are reluctant to ask the questions that may help keep parks open.

Forums often get to be where they protect each other by eventually disallowing things from other forums being brought to them although they are part of the detecting community. I'll see if you are part of the protection group and if you use the term " drama " to limit discussion on the tougher issues that require moderating. There is no shortage of people showing heir finds. There is a shortage of people willing to encourage discussion on the issues that are detrimental to the hobby.

I hope you can earn a positive opinion too.

Kemper , this forum is for the sharing of ideas , tips , experiences , finds and just about anything else that is "related" to the hobby is up for debate .Posts will remain up for debates , discussions and even machine comparisons will be allowed here and so will members as long as their behavior and posts are respectful to others and the post has something relevant to add to the thread topic. Again we encourage a hearty conversation but we won't tolerate machine or manufacture or member bashing here , If you want to bring up thought provoking (hobby related) discussions your welcome to as long as they are appropriate with the forum rules and don't offend anyone in any way.

"...don't offend anyone in any way. " I don't think that is possible in reality when discussing metal detecting issues. If someone detects in a park and gets told to leave, when someone on a forum tells them that they should not detect using a shovel or in a group or at the wrong time of day, they can get offended. If a person asks for permission when permission is not necessary and they get told no, they can get offended if someone on a forum tells them they should have just detected low key.

I only touched lightly on some of the many things that people will get offended by. If a forum tries to put people's feelings over the issues that effect the hobby that forum will do more harm than good to the hobby. If you are overly worried about offending " anyone in any way " then the most important issues will not be discussed. Calling a site a "Forum " can be different than actually encouraging and wanting to have a real forum. Usually things get labeled as "Drama" by those that are as fake as the site they are in charge of. I am a member here so I'll see if you mean what you said about "member bashing " not being aloud. Not that I agree that it should be off limits as "bashing" is hard to define.

The decision to add or delete staff belongs to the owners and other staff; member opinions do not play a role in that decision. Nor is it appropriate on this thread.

Not that I agree that it should be off limits as "bashing" is hard to define.

Go ahead and post as you wish, as long as it's within the forum rules and respectful to other members. If you want to discuss "tough" issues, that's fine - just follow the community rules. I guarantee you that moderation will define "bashing" if the need arises. Thanks.

Yes it can be a challenge Kemper , especially when your not faced to faced when conversing with that individual but I have lots of faith in that you will at least give it an honest try. You did come here to contribute in a positive way , and not just to ruffle feathers and see how long you'd last on this website ?? I think you could add interesting dialogue an some humor Kemper but its really up to you if you want to remain here isn't it .

Kemper,
Having been on here for over a year it seems to be drama free forum....for the most part. As far as Dan said...I hope it's understood it's not easy to define certain lines. Like machine bashing for one. We can all have an opinion, but there's a fine line between bashing and giving an honest low review which is hard to define. Those who read should understand too that some things can be an opinion. Is there really any guarantee? Can people unread something? I feel it is their fault if they choose to be stubborn if they get offended when someone has to correct them even if involves calling them out a bit.

I'm working for a place that tries to apply a cookie cutter approach to everything when not everything fits within the specified criteria. That being said even the little things can offend some and I'm quite sure moderators will sympathize but explain things are still acceptable and explain to the complainer that nothing will be done.

A guy I get out with says he likes to get out with me cuz I don't tell him howto detect. I have learned there is no correct way to hit any site. Idk.. so far I have been satisfied with the information provided here and hope it continues cuz questions always arise.

Was it absolutely necessary to add another moderator? Idk. But does it really have a cost associated with adding one? I don't think so. There was a reason it was done, however. Drew has been great as far as info he provides. I do like your initiative to spark ideas and hope they continue about the sport...and it ends up yielding useful answers on her.

Ang, I might part with one I found recently if Drew won't part with one. I'm sure he's found more, however. Lol.

For those who may not be aware, we lost two moderators recently, Tanacat and Lowjiber. We also lost Cody a while back, as well as Coinnut and jkress who were administrators. All of these staff members were very valuable to the forum and we hated to see them go. Life happens, people move on sometimes.

So, even though we have added OxShoeDrew as a moderator, the overall size of our staff has actually shrunk, not increased.

As anyone who has been here for any length of time knows, this forum is virtually free of the drama, bickering and name-calling that plagues other forums. Yes, part of that is because we're smaller, but it's also because of the overall demeanor and general intelligence of our members here. We do not allow insults and disrespect to take place here, so people who engage in that kind of interaction soon move on to other venues.

All topics related to metal detecting are open for respectful discussion here and always will be.

Well put Tony. What makes AD such a great forum is that the moderators set the tone by the way they comport themselves. Drew will fit right in.
