2 Hour Park Hunt

Seeing that most of my fields that I hunt have now been planted I went to a park today. This is the park that Rob and myself have repeatedly hit and have gotten many, many silvers out of.

Today I ran the V3i in the Hi-Pro single freq 2.5 and got some keepers. The 2 mercs are dated 1917 and 1918, no mint marks. The 5 wheats of which most are toasted but I did get a 1912. The IH is a 1898 so I have 2 more coins for the signature.

Also got myself a St. Christopher medal and a foreign coin. On the obverse it says Republic Francaise and I can't make out anything on the reverse. If anybody knows anything about this coin please respond.

Al, it looks like a 5 or 10 centimes from France. Roughly turn of the century ..say 1900-1903. The date is on the back on the bottom and denomination around 4 o'clock position.

Jim, thanks for the info. I just rechecked the coin and I saw that it is a 10 centimes but the date still eludes me. I will try a peroxide bath later on tonight.

That's still a productive site. How come you set it to single frequency? Do you think that made the difference? Nice going Al!

Drew, Yes I think that the single frequency made the difference. All though this site can still produce, it ain't like it used to be....:lol:

After 2 peroxide baths I'm pretty sure that the date is 1917.

Theres still some nice finds in that park. Hi Pro is a good program but it takes a little training to re-calibrate way the way you listen to the tones. I struggle with it somewhat.

Good you got a date. The soil must have been bad as on a bigger screen I was noticing even the mercs became a bit grainy in the soil. After I posted I found that those went from 1898 until 1921, but the majority of pics were literally 1900-1904 which is why I just figured most popular dates is close to what you got. Unfortunately the 1914 is the rare one. I just knew tho it had the woman and child depicted on the reverse by that prominent line.

Congrats on the finds, Al! It is amazing what you and Rob have pulled out of that park. The fact that you can still find silver there is a testament to how many coins must be in the ground, and how good of a detectorist you are.

I'm late to the party on this one Al, but great to see you getting out and finding good stuff. I love that St Christopher medal, actually. Sometimes those things are more fun to find than coins. (Did I just say that? :lol: )
