Me and Luke were talking for 2 years. he's one of the first people I met on the forums and we finally both had a day where we were free. They drove down two and a half hours down from PA to the hunting site. They were hoping for civil war relics and I was hoping for older coins. The site was a blacksmith shop from the 1790's, it also served as a post office and toll gate. Other people have detected here before but that means nothin to us. It was great to put faces to names today. Luke brought an extra pinpointer for me to borrow which was really thoughtful. We started in the yard but then realized it was just unbearable, the EMI caused the yard to be undetectable. There must be a line buried in there. we hunted the field behind it and there was no problem! right off the bat Luke's dad gets a colonial pewter spoon fragment with the common she'll motif then not a foot away gets a huge ball button! We knew we were in the right area. Not too long after Luke calls me over and gets a copper while I'm digging some melted lead and bottle caps. It turned out to be a 1850 Braided hair large cent. I got a modern 4 hole shank navy button and a musket ball. I head over to the area of the field where they were at earlier and get a few signals. One was half a zinc penny and the other was a civil war bullet! A .52 sharps that had chew marks in it. I know there was a Calvalry battle nearby and it's now showing. Luke's dad gets a possinle iron shoe buckle frame and a nice silvered flat button. We get a water break and head up farther back into the field. Immediately Luke's dad got a dropped 3-ringer. Then not a minute later I get one with a mold line still there in great shape. Luke's dad gets another great find in this little area, a back to a eagle coat button and I get a deep copper signal. I was pretty sure it was going to be a copper. nope it wasn't a copper but it was a piece of a brass washer that holds the screw of an Enfield rifle... ANOTHER confederate gun part.... Wow ! I would've thought it was nothing until Luke saw it! Luke gets a mystery piece of iron that MIGHT be a barrel band from a musket. We take another quick break and get back out there (yeah it was HOT yesterday, humidity was awful!) and head to the front of the field where Luke got his copper. His dad gets a good signal on his Fisher... and it's rock solid 80 on my machine. boom! Another copper... A toasty KGIII. Not five minutes later Luke gets his Second copper of the day... A toast one. darn! Hey a copper's a copper. :) Also I got two more clad coins that sounded JUST LIKE COPPERS, of course my luck. :lolsign: Then I dug a really cute little Minnie ball... I show Luke and we both came to the conclusion it's a Merrill carbine .50 cal. it was used in Calvalry battles like the one we were nearby. :) Cooool! Then the funniest thing happened. We got kicked off by someone who didn't even own the property and claimed they were an archeologist and it is her "Philosophy to dishonor people who take artifacts out from the ground" like what do you expect to do, sift out the whole dang field? anyway we left and we went scouting. on the way to another site we saw a colonial chimney in a modern house yard. weird as heck but I'll further investigate it. Then we got to the site where a house was marked on the 1854 map and is long gone for over 100 years. (I have permission) We took a quick look and possibly found the house site cause we found an area with lots of iron. I get one signal before it started pouring... Some type of brass with a slit at the top and paper inside it. not a shotgun shell! it's very weird. It started pouring and we had to run to the truck... We couldn't see 20 feet in front of us. The hunt was over... That was a lot of fun though!!! We have to do it again some time when your schedule is free. Luke and his dad are great people and really appreciate them coming down here to find some stuff. :thumbsup02: HH everyone and take care!
