View Full Version : One Yard / Three Keepers & some Wheats

I stopped after work last night and hunted one yard for a little over an hour.
About 15 minutes into the hunt, I dug an 1899 Barber Dime about 6 inches deep. 20 minutes later I got a 1945 Merc about 5 inches deep. Things slowed down after that, but just as I was getting ready to call it a day, I got a solid 12-11 at about 7 inches. When I got down to 9 inches, there it was, a 1905 V Nickel. Not bad for an hour and a half.
I ended up with 6 Wheats as well.
Just for the record, I went back to the same neighborhood today for about 2 hours. Got 6 more Wheats and nothing else.

You make Illinois look like a groovy place to hunt Don. Nice finds in those yards. I found my first V nickel yesterday but is nowhere near the conditions yours is in.
Happy hunting.

Thanks Ron. I love hunting Illinois. The soil here is good to the buried coins. ( most of the time) and the home owners are pretty good at giving permissions.
Congrats on your first of many V Nickel

Yeah, why haven't I pulled up anything like that here? Altho, one permission I have been to three times but couldn't hunt yet as they weren't home. ugh. Congrats on pulling up a lot of silver lately, and that barber has nice detail.
