While treasure hunting in Arizona I found this 1831-36 Sonora 1/4 real. It is exactly the same diameter as an American Nickel, but made from copper.
The coin has been soaking in olive oil for 2 weeks and these are the best photo's so far. This now is my oldest and first hammered coin.

Thanks guys, I would think finding a foreign hammered coin within the
U.S. would be on the unusual side. I haven't been able to read a date
on it yet, but luckily it was only made for 6 years.
Don't see many copper 1/4 reals posted , you found yourself a very old spot in Arizona where there was a lot of Spanish activity or commerce going on. very interesting coin and history , thanks for sharing it.
