Monday’s weather forecast promised warmer temps but with some chances of showers so we decided to go out and hit the field site I found last Saturday. My first good target turned out to be an Indian Head and only after getting home and cleaning it did I find out how good it really was! It turned out to be an 1872 Semi-Key date in fantastic condition. The 1872 is listed as the second hardest date after the 1877.

After finding typical field items, buttons, clay marble and the brass end of a walking stick I got a solid signal and when I looked I saw what I thought was a coin on the surface mainly of the edge of a furrow. It turned out to be an 1843 Large Cent with nice definition!

Diane had found some buttons and a 1925 Wheat and then she called me over as she found an Indian Head a nice 1881.

After some more relic finds the rain came in and got a bit steady so we packed up and decided to drive around and check out a couple more fields where possible sites are located. We decided to head home when the rain stopped and some sunshine popped out so we decided to hit our old faithful field where we have had amazing success which includes 11 Large Cents, Fatty Indian, Two Cent piece and V Nickel amongst other finds. We were glad we did as Diane found her first ever clay marble and she was happy with that. I was proceeding along a row when I got a good signal on the CTX a 12-42 and as I stopped to investigate I could see and edge of a coin standing out of the ground! As I swept across it in a different direction the TID jumped to a 12-44 to 12-46, and yes it was Large Cent number 12 from this field. A nice 1832 Matron Head!

The large cents are terrific, and I love the photo of the one sticking out of the ground, but that 1872 Indian Head is INCREDIBLE! :thumbsup02:

Such a scarce date, and it's in really nice shape, especially for a field find. Yours is definitely the "Bold N" variety. What a wonderful find!

:congrats:

Great finds, and LCs in great condition being in the field for that long and enduring all the fertilizer/nitrogen etc.

Saw an IH come out of the ground here looking similar but your soil in the Mid states seems forgiving. Nice looking Matrons and the '72 is great. Rain here, but maybe it will help with deeper signals for the weekend.

Wow! Nice finds! All of the coins I find in fields are in ROUGH shape due to the harsh fertilizers used by farmers.
