I headed out yesterday up to a permission I have been to at least a dozen times but I was armed with my new NEL sharpshooter coil so I thought Id give it a go.........my first signal was a wheat penny but in the hole with it was some foil so I was pleased to know my sharpshooter was picking things out beside trash:grin: thats why I purchased it lol..as i worked along got a mid tone sounded a little trashy but good enough to dig so I flipped the plug and out pops a button I seen right away that it had a bent over shank so i stuck it in the pouch for safe keeping but didnt brush it off on i went swinging got around back of the house got a great high tone and out pops a 41 Merc :happydance01: my first silver in about 3 month so that made the day. As I was heading back to the truck after a couple hours and a wheat penny later I dug a signal that ended up being a Memorial penny but it also had a awesome looking marble with so well worth my time to dig ;).

I got home and was cleaning up my finds as I got the button cleaned up I almost fainted when I realized it was a civil war button (at least I think Im right lol) :bananadance:I also dug some other relics 2 of them look like jewelry and the other with the white and gold plate i have no idea thanks for looking everyone HH

Lol. Glad to hear the NEL was helping out. Yesterday I couldn't really check the potential of the one I got. Nice button. It prob is a civil war one. Judging by the two piece design. someone on here had the book of 'em; I can only see the fronts. Yours has a little bit still left on the back, maybe it said Scovill Mfg.

Yeah the NEL seem to work good didn't notice much if any depth loss so that's a good thing thanks

Yes, to my eye that button looks like a 1854-1875 general service button. Very cool find! :thumbsup02:

I love the marble too! :thumbsup01:

This one Tony? http://www.civilwarbuttons.com/uc1033.JPG

Now with a better screen and easier to go back and forth between webpages... I can compare. Looks like the majority of the US central Govt buttons had the eagle with shield, sometimes with a letter. Right near the missing side piece at 3 o'clock, looks like it does say "BURY" for Waterbury.

Definetly a civil war era button! General service enlistedmans button, with the backmark of a depressed channel (and probably a scovills BM) I'd say it might even be 1850s. Good luck with your future hunts!
