this week = 5 silvers in one day and a few nice bullets

So on Monday I got myself a permission to a nice
1918 house. (one that the neighbor told me to get off their property) Just by
the look of the yard, I knew it was going to be good. The finds weren't
extremely old, but they were certainly plentiful! The first target was a solid
82 which I thought was going to be a memorial penny, turned out to be silver #1
for the day. 1947 dime, a few wheat pennies later, I get an iffy nickel signal
and there was my second silver... a '44 war nickel... then right next to it I
get a screamin' 82... there's silver #3 in the sidewall, another '47 dime. A few
more wheats later I get another wheat penny signal which turned out to be a
sweet worn 1936 mercury which is #4. Some you soldiers, a few wheats, and some
clad + scrap brass turn up in the next hour in the backyard... it was getting
dark and wanted to try the other side of the yard for a quick swing and got a
sweet 82-86 and i had a nice '64 Rosie staring back at me. All in all a good
quickie hunt after school :cool:

Saturday
I headed down south with my family and got some quick hunts in. This one was 45
minutes . First we hit up an abandoned school house on private property. I
headed to the back of the school because the front was pretty trashy. Almost
immediately I dig a pretty old head stamp and then a sweet silver plated broach.
Not a minute after I dug my only old coin... a 1918 wheat penny. probably
dropped when my step great grand father went here as a boy. then I get a nice
sounding mid tone a bit faint ... at 9" I pull out what I thought was going to
be another piece of junk and to my surprise i dug a sweet brass tag from a
soapstone mine close by..... after a few minutes of nothing ...... I get a
strong 75 signal and out popped a minié ball.......... wow that was a nice
suprise! after that we head home to eat some nice home made soup my step grandma
made! Yummmmm and then we headed off for another hunt. The first location we
went to did not produce anything... trash... but I got a kick out of this one:

Then we went to "bullet hill" where
I've found several bullets in the past. only could stay for 30 minutes.
Immediately I get a sweet 69-70, you know what that means at pro users, minié
ball. Right off the bat. 5 minutes later another 69-70 in some hard ground
too... another one... then 5 mins one more that screamed my ears off. A beat
Confederate sharps sitting right on the surface. after that I got nothing except
a deep zinc penny that sounded JUST LIKE A MINNIE BALL :girlcry: I did the live dig
and everything :lol: So I think I had a pretty good hunt for 75
mins

On
Sunday morning it got freezing and the wind was freakin blowing.... but me and
my dad braved the cold. We went to the school house again and I didn't get a
single good target in 45 minutes. In that time I dug a few aluminum cans (one
was 16" deep and was sure it was gonna be a buckle :lol: (yeah right)) I
thought to myself... hey... why not check the fields around the school.... the
soldiers went down this road (where the schoolhouse is off of) and could've
dropped a few more bullets - especially since I found that first one the day
before. Well my suspicions were right, solid 69-74 I knew it was gonna be-- you
guessed it-- another minié ball in real good shape. I then proceeded to grid
these fields and got another slammin' hit - a flattened out one this time! Then
20 minutes later I get another sweet hit and it's a carved? bullet? I think.
After that we swung a few more minutes with limited results. Oh well. 7 bullets
in one weekend is not bad at all for me!!!

Isaac, some great hunting. All those silvers and some nice early wheat's from that one yard....sweet. Getting yourself some more civil war relics is also a nice accomplishment, good thinking on doing the fields by the school. If you ever run into Mr. No Relic Hunting please tell him for me that he's not a nice guy.....:lol:
