Old - Old Copper, wheat and maybe a watch winder

Got out this afternoon for a short 2 hour hunt. Decided to go to a spot which in the past has produced, LC's, seated, Barber, IH

First keeper would be the 1941 wheat. A little while later I got what I think might be a watch winder.

I really hate to say this BUT "on the way back to the car" I get this 7 -8 inch signal with a VDI bouncing between 78 and 83. Dig down and I pull the copper out of the hole. I think that there is a bust facing right but that would be all I could see. I fear that it might be another New England disc. :lol:Any help appreciated.

Haha. Trying to thow a curve ball here? I knew something was up when both the disc and the wheat are about the same size. Now I know what you mean by NE disc... it's toasty. I just cannot tell you the date. But from pic #3 that little tiny divit on the center and kinda looking like a lady in a dress almost made it look like it could be a CT. It looks to me like it says "1262" somewhere in the middle of the toasted back but that's just a figment. That must be the word "America". Lincoln was facing right. Good you are getting out.

It's bigger than the wheat and is very thin. Looking in the Red book it's the same size as the Hibernia farthing.

WOW. Dan thanks for the ID but are you sure. Now don't get me wrong I would love to break into the 1600's club.

Good call, Dan! After doing a Google image search I'd say you are correct! :yes:

You can clearly see the crown on the bust on the obverse of Al's coin, and part of the "ROY.FR.DE.ET.DE" lettering.

Now I'm really happy, can't begin to express my thanks for the ID. Always wanted to find a 1600's coin just never thought I would.

Dan has a great eye! I found one this summer and still wouldn't have put it together unless Dan said it. Absolutely correct, you can see the crown. If I recall the crown makes it mid 1600s Magnificent find!

No....this was in another area that Rob and Tim and I have hit numerous times. Part of an old farm in Westfield.
Actually only a couple blocks from my house, am planning on hitting that other field tomorrow.

Al , if your pulling coins this old , well there could be a pine or oak tree schilling there too.

It's hard to make out what's supposed to be on the back as there were a few types of liard coins. From the front if the crown has the crosses or fleur-de-lis and words above the bust (and around the rim) then it's literally mid 1600s. Between 1655 and 1657.

A most excellent find Al. It is amazing what you can find while heading back to the car.

I would be happy to break into the 1700s. Can not imagine how exciting a 1600s coin would feel like.
