A little silver after work at an old house

Hey diggers,

I stopped by an old Victorian style house I've been eyeing for a couple years now and got permission to detect. It was a crazy yard. Memorial cents down to 7 inches and wheat cents just as deep! I had a nice signal at 8 inches and was happy to pop out a 1914-D Barber dime. I had a deep signal at 10 inches that barely showed up on my display. I was surprised to find 6 wheat cents all together. Their dates ranged from 1909 to 1925. Later I got a very sweet 12-47 at 8 inches deep. As I dug down the signal was sounding really good. Imagine my displeasure when it turned out to be a 1976 quarter. :devilish: I hunted until dark and ended up with 33 coins. The yard is quite large and so the homeowner has said I can come back some time in the future. Thanks for looking and HH, Dave.

I absolutely love the green patina on those early wheat pennies... and that barber. :smitten: Great finds Dave... way to go on all the oldies. :)

Yeah them early wheat cents have a nice green patina right up to the 1930's then they get brown and rusty after WW2. I read somewhere that the copper recipe was changed a couple times over the years and that's why they age differently in the ground.

Nice hunt Dave. 6 wheaties in one hole, Pretty Cool. The Barber is nice as well. Congrats.
Best of luck on your return visit.

Great set of wheats Dave. Yard must have had some fill put in at some point in the past to have the clad and wheats that deep huh?

John
