Hey diggers,
I drove up to see Tony Two-Cent this weekend. Luckily, Tim was able to join us on Sunday. We hunted a school yard at a school that dates to 1919. A local told us there was an older school there before that. He also said he has metal detected that school yard many times since 1975 and he has found hundreds of coins there. Given what Tony, Tim and I found there I wonder how he missed so much! I had a couple nice "firsts" this weekend. I thought I had the oldest silver but then Timmay! blew it out of the water! I did find a 1913 Canadian 5 cents (aka a fish scale). It was 10 inches deep and rang up like a weak indian head cent! It's a real testament to the e-trac that it could pick up that coin 10 inches deep and in a trashy area! I thought it was a half dime at first (I guess technically it is a half dime). I got a 1910's girl scout ring that is marked OB Sterling (Ostby Barton). Looks like they go for about $80 on eBay. I also got a TINY girl's ring with a green stone. It was also 10 inches deep and rang up 10-34.

All the coins and rings I found were in the 8 to 10 inch range. All the shallow targets were long gone.

I also found 37 wheat cents!

A special thanks to Tony for hosting me this weekend and finding all the places for us to MD!

Thanks for looking and HH, Dave.

Looks like you had a great weekend. You got a ton of nice finds. I bet after the three of you were there, that school is in poverty. NO CASH LEFT :lolsign:
I would love to have met up with you guys, but this weekend got all screwed up. Anyway, i'm glad you guys all got together for a great weekend of hunting.
Congrats on the 46 keeper coins and the rings.

Congrats on all your great finds, Dave! The Canadian 5 Cent Silver is a very unusual coin for these parts.

That Barber Dime is a real beauty! Wow, incredible detail on it.

I really like that Girl Scout ring too. You did a good job of straightening it. It looks nice.

Congrats on your finds! I'm glad that we were able to find a productive site.

Nice coins. Just curious about that 5 cent Canadian coin. Are they 70% silver and did it ring up like silver or a penny?

They are sterling silver (.925) and it rang up as a very weak Indian head cent.

Thanks Don. Sorry we couldn't get you in on the group hunt also. We'll have to get everyone together before winter sets in though!

Thanks. I wonder if the other part (liberty bell) was found some other detectorist years ago?

Yes, thanks again Tony. You are truly a great guy and fellow detectorist (although slightly better than me).

Thanks Del. We don't get the really old coins you guys get back East but we do pretty good! The fish scale was a complete surprise and wasn't even on my bucket list. As it lay there on the dirt pile Tony and I looked at it for several minutes trying to figure out what it was before I even picked it up. We were leaning towards cap bust half dime. We could see the reeded edge so trime was out. Tony got out his old man glasses and says "Oh, it's one of those Canadian fish scales!"

Really nice finds across the board. That 1911-D Barber dime is sweet. If there was ever a time to find a gold coin, a 1911-D 2 1/2 would be a nice date to find in that condition. Been collecting coins a long time and was a dealer in colonials for a while and some dates just stand out and the 11-D was one of them. Way to go!

Dave, that some nice hunting especially since all your goodies came in between 8-10 inches. Love your fish scale.

I can imagine what the old timer who has hunted that school since 1975 had found....:shocked04:

:congrats:on all your keepers.
