Coins, Relics & the NY Municipal Police

Went back to the site I was at last weekend & snagged a few more coins and relics.

1835 LC, 16, 18 & 23 Wheaties & a no date Buffalo as well as this cool NY Municipal Police Coat Button (1860-70)

Spoon was laying on top of the ground as well as the eye glass lens.

Anybody know what these 2 pointy things are?

Great looking button. Super shape. As far as the long things, any marks on the long center side? Could there be something broken off the pieces anywhere on them or are the complete?

Thanks! No writing or broken marks. Perhaps the pivot insert into a hinge.
 
very cool relics Rog.the police button dates to the 1870's-80's.a face book friend of mine is a button collector and had a bag of these.he saw my NY city police belt plate and messaged me telling me he had so many that he wanted to send me some to go with the plate.not sure what the pointy rods are i have dug those before too.I doubt they have to do with a hinge being a hexagon shaped shaft

Wow, the button looks nice. In general and the status as it came out of the ground. For some reason the hex rods look like they would be the ends to a tapestry (which would be a small one obvi) or a religious scroll to hang on the wall seeing as you have two pieces. Yes the top looks smaller but It's just the perspective of the pic. Were they found in the same hole or close to each other for that matter?

I missed this post Roger...the Police button cleaned up really nice! Gratz on the largie also. When I first read your header, I thought maybe a police man stopped you :hystericallaugh:
 
Great button. I found the two of those last year with a Brooklyn Police button. It seems the Brooklyn police department became part of the municipal police department int the 1850's and someone could have replaced their buttons as needed. Here's the ones I found. I think your button could date to the 1850-1860's. There is some interesting history of NYPD and it seems it went from being the municipal police dept to the metropolitan police dept in 1857.
