Hi everyone these finds are from last Sunday at the in-laws. Got my first wheat penny of the hunt on my second signal a early one 1917 has a nice green patina on it. Then I found the flat button I cleaned it up when I got home and on the inside of the button it says "Rich Orange Colour" any one have any info on it it would be appreciated.

Maybe someone can give you a more precise answer. I found a button online where the back mark is "EXTRA RICH ORANGE COLOR" and it's listed as a golden age gilt from the 1830s to 1840s. The front in the online pic has some detail tho.
backmarks like extra rich , treble gilt , best orange , standard colour , ect. are just examples of the quality type of gilting the button had but don't date the button accurately. these buttons are usually the size and thickness to a nickle or penny in size and sometimes called "coin buttons" or "flat buttons" and are almost always having a plain front . these were popularly used from 1810 to 1830's.

Congrats on your first flat button. :thumbsup01: It's in great condition and even has the shank left on it!! If a flat button is in that area, then some very old coins can be there too!

Those are some cool finds. That buckle reminds me of the ones on the old galoshas. They had that little extenshion on the end so you could undo them.
