Reverse of Coronets Askew?

Hello Friends, When I put my Coronet Heads in paper covers I noticed that three of the reverses were askew. They pointed to the left at differing degrees. This one is the most pronounced. Did they just not have the exacting standards for striking that we are used to? Thanks, Drew

It's pretty common on US large cents. Several of mine have rotated dies as well. As you surmised, production standards were not nearly as exact back then.

Yeah. I will agree. Comparing the few CT coppers which were only a little while before those and the obverse was always at different angles. And yes, I do know the minting process changed a fair amount between 1780's and early 1800's as the first authorized minting was just after the coppers and coins started having those reeded edges.

Yes Drew , as Tony pointed out having mis-aligned dies was more common then today's minted coins . Still getting a 180 degree mis-aligned die coin is scarce , i'll have to dig around but I might have a large cent with a 90 degree rotation.
