Was driving home from work today and decided to knock on the door of a house I drive by every day. An old farm house right on the edge of new housing developments. I was able to hunt about a half hour before the storm rolled in.
I dug a 1941 Washington 2" deep next to a big ole tree. I think the roots of the tree pushed it up to the surface. I almost didn't dig it because it pin pointed so loud and close to the surface, thought it was probably clad. But something in the tone said Dig IT, I'm glad I did ! also dug one Wheat and 3 shotgun shells.

Not too shabby for a quick stop Don.

Omg. I was gonna say how worn the rim was and compared to the place where I got a single silver quarter, and I just checked it's the same date. Weird. With the exception of the green patina on mine it looks the same. Nice find. The old school house I was at and only found a bunch of clad and one wheat, the wheat was right up against the big old tree and right on the surface. Not 2" down, on the surface. I think it just doesn't sink in the ground because of the roots. A clad (silver) is close to a silver. There is a very slight difference, but it's so slight that you might think it's the other. Best to dig anything above a full copper penny in a yard/field/park.

Nice Washington Don :clapping: still haven't found a silver Quarter myself
shallow silver is a great indicator of an area thats never been hit before Don. I hope you get back out there soon .

Congrats Don, and one silver per half hour is a great success rate! I'd definitely see if I could go back to that place.
