Last year I found a spot of woods of about 2 acres that has just produced an amazing assortment of coins including a Seated Half-VF, 2 Seated Quarters VF & XF, 6 large cents including 3 draped busts, 12 Indians, 2 Barber Quarters, Barber Dime, 1891 Canadian Dime, half real, V Nickel, Buffalos, a nice antique sterling ring and a host of other items. I've gone back again and again and although lean, it keeps producing. I've even brought 5 different detector buddies to the site too. After dinner last night I had about an hour before dark and figured as it was close I'd give it another shot. Got out of my car, put the loop down to the ground and got a signal. 1865 Indian 6' from the car. I couldn't believe it. Worked real slow and about 10 minutes later got a kind of iffy hit, but worth digging. Pulled a square nail out of the hole. Checked again and still had a signal. Low and behold I had a 2 cent piece. Last time I found a 2 cent piece was more than 30 years ago. They only made them for 9 years and they didn't circulate much. I'm still amazed.

:congrats:on breaking the 30 year curse on the 2 center's. The IH is a nice early one and looks like LIBERTY is there. That spot sounds like it should be called a "honey hole". Great hunting.

Man what a site Don! Looks like you'll always have a backup site for years to come. Found a similar 2 center (also an 1865) about 2 weeks ago and was just as happy. Congrats.

Wow, you've been on fire lately, Don! The variety of old coins that you find is amazing! Interesting that both coins are dated 1865. Hopefully you won't have to wait 30 years for your next Two Cent Piece!

Thanks Tony. I spend a lot of time looking at old maps and online aerial photos. I'm also a Realtor and look for places on the market that are old and follow up with the agent to try and get permission. I've also been a director of our 9,000 member board and know a lot of the agents. As a result, some of my finds over the last few months from getting permission this way include a nice 1788 2 real, a half a dozen large cents including an 1804, Barber and standing liberty quarters, a host of other silver coins, silver jewelry, war of 1812 artillery buttons and a bunch of other items. Takes a little effort to find the spots, but it's well worth it.

The IH looks to be lost soon after entering circulation. Didn't know the two denominations were produced at the same time. HH

I always put 2 cent pieces in the same category as shield nickels and flying eagle cents..... they don't come up very often, but when they do, I am really happy to see them. You did well getting a real nice early Indian and a very nice two center :clapping: :congrats:
