My son Alec dug this at a house that was built in the 1830s. It was 11" deep.
We don't have a clue what it is. Any ideas?

I'd say its a watch fob probably made in 1922 , any prestigious schools or collages nearby Don??

Thanks Del, I think the 22 is what confused me. Now it make sense. All the FOBs that I've seen have had some kind of advertising or cool design on it.
There are 3 collages within about a 75 mile radius of where he found it.

Maybe the L is the initial of the student and the 22 is for the class of 1922?

Great ID Dan. Don, how about Loyola U. of Chicago. Decent school, northern IL so fairly close proximity to you. I'd agree with fyrffytr1's (wow...tough typing that one) comment above in that the hyphen in front of the number suggests it's a date. Fob for a graduate from the class of '22. If you had some time and patience and did some research on who lived in the house back then you could probably narrow the owner/college down. That would be interesting.
