Hi there all American Detectorists! :waving: Your posts have been an inspiration to me this year. Thank you.
So, sadly I've only been out swinging my machine twice this year. Once in April and again July 5th.
Early April -
I hiked up, (what seemed like a Colorado Mountain), to an old rock quarry I thought might hold some coins
from the early 1900's. Researched during the winter months and put on 'the list'.
The grass was long and the Barbers and Indian cents eluded me. However a Merc, Rosie and Wheat cents came up easily. :)

July 5th -
My buddy Ron has been vigilantly out this year, picking up Seated coins, Rosies and everything in between. He called Saturday about 3:30 in the afternoon to see if I wanted to go on a hunt. Finally we were able to hunt together again...
We were off to a virgin picnic grove he found in Wisconsin.
Ron hunted this beautiful area one time a couple of weeks ago and waited until I could go with him before he returned. :notworthy:
The return trip was fantastic! Cloudy skies, mid 70's, north wind and a good chance of silver. :happydance01:
There are tons of coin targets here. The picnic grove started in the early 1920's (rumor has it earlier) and is still being used today. So, finding deep targets in between the carpet of clad was challenging, but we cherry picked this hunt and each of us had several
Wheat cents, silver coins and jewelry in our pockets after a couple of hours hunting. :smitten:
In my pocket -

This 1915 Barber half dollar is proudly sitting in my books now. Right next to the only other one I have dug. Hats off to my hunting buddy for finding this gem of a site.
Awesome bunch of silvers for sure :thumbsup02:

Thanks! It was a great time seeing a silver edge in the dirt again. Especially the bigger one!
Awesome Half Dollar. That really is a Great find. The Mercs & medal are sweet also. Congrats on getting out and having a great hunt.
The hunt was really great, I'm glad my buddy called. It has been a couple of years since I dug a Barber this big, I will certainly remember this particular dig for quite a while.
I guess good things do come to those who wait....:thumbsup02:
:thumbsup01: Maybe so Al. But I would gladly take a steady stream of the old ones you dig up in between Barber half dollars.
So happy to see a post from you, Joe!
It looks like Ron discovered a great site there in Wisconsin!
I hope your back is feeling better after doing that cartwheel!
I couldn't agree with you more Tony... Ron discovered a fantastic site!! The grove has been owned by the same family since the late 1800's.
Better yet - the area has never had a metal detector on it.
Just today Ron called to see if I could head back over with him, I could not. But he pulled another 4 Mercs and Rosie on his trip today.
"Cartwheel"... not sure what you are talking about? p.s. My back is finally up to 80% not due (of course) to any cartwheel related antics.
Nice score on the Barber half Joe. :smitten: Huge silver always get the imagination rolling  Nothing better that a great day of detecting for the soul
Thank you George!! Huge silver does get the imagination rolling for sure, but seeing a colonial cellar hole would be a real treat to say the least.
Congrats on the nice finds. Wish my first couple of trips out this year was as successful. Awesome. Safe & HH
I just got lucky this time around. That's how it goes for us treasure hunters. Sometimes you get them... sometimes you don't. Good luck on your next hunt!

Hey Tim... it is good to be seen. :groovy: Sorry to hear your detecting time has been limited also. But you have made some great recoveries so far!!
Hopefully you, Ted and Tony can make it over for another hunt this fall.
Great to see you back in the groove again Joe ! That is one sweet Barber Half . I hope to see you posting more great hunts from your new site .:congrats:
It's great to be back buddy. Hopefully I can stay in 'the groove'. This site is a very relaxing river valley, country setting. I can definitely see us camping here
late fall for a weekend of clad clearing. Ron is just itching to see what's underneath.
nice hunt, been looking for some new spots as well, hard to come by these days. Nice job Wisconsin Digger
New spots are always an exciting hunt... whether good or bad. It's just fun to try something different. Where are you located in Wi.?
was wondering where you were Joe , great hunt , would love to get out with you guys again
I'm still here. :waving: Just haven't been able to dig many holes this year... yet.
Work - Wife and our five year old have been keeping me busy. :thumbsup02:
