Short hunt produces dime Trifecta

I obtain permission a couple days ago to hunt a new church site I located recently. The site dates to about 1880. Yesterday I only had two hours to hunt so I thought I would get a feel for the site. It turned out to be one of my better short hunts in quite some time. Within a minute I had a deep wheat and a few minutes later I had a 42-S Merc. I could tell after two digs that the ground was probably original and that the site more likely was virgin ground. I decided to start at one end of the large grassy area and just slowly work a pattern so as not to miss any ground. I got a couple more wheats before hitting my next silver which was a 51-D Rosie and it was a deep one, around 8-9 inches. The ground was very soft black dirt so I knew the old stuff was going to be deep. My third silver turned out to be a ring that came in like a silver dime. The next find was the best of the bunch an 1899 Barber dime at 10". It completed the dime trifecta which I had not done in a while. After a few more wheats I topped off the hunt with a 51-D Washington. I had a total of 10 wheats and $.54 in clad. I covered less than 10% of the grassy area and can't wait to get back next week.

Very encouraging results, especially for a short hunt, Jeff! Five pieces of silver would seem to indicate a virgin site or at least seldom hunted.

I would be getting back there at the earliest opportunity! :thumbsup01:

thats a great first hunt at a new site Jeff , don't see the dime trifecta that often!! well done , hope to see what you find next there.
