Sat we got a invite to go to Long Island.Todd scooped me up and we took the ferry over.i couldn't get my coil over that much while everyone else kicked my butt.besides 4 pouchfuls of can slaw and beer can tops,I did get a lone copper.not sure what it is? king william? glad i took the before picture of it cuz i lost any detail after a light cleaning.a 16kt gold filled ring with "Charlie" engraved inside.a broken brass spur and a nipple button.

Sunday I went back to a old pounded out site.across from the cellar hole was a tiny wooded walled area and i got the spill alongside the wall.2 wheaties both 1909 VDB's,a 1870 IH,2 barber dimes 1899 & 1906 and a beautiful 1916 merc(no D) which still has mint luster on it.so this would date the spill to around that time.
a huge musketball and look at the size of the bullet head next to it! the other small ones are like 32 calibur.what the hell kinda gun shot this thing? looks like you can take down a moose with this shot.and i thought i had a real gun at 1st when a toy cap gun surfaces at a cellar hole.
Dan or George can you tell me what the copper is?

Beautiful photos and terrific finds, Dave! Very nice coin spill and wow, that 1916 Merc is the nicest I've ever seen! :loveit:

The 1870 Indian Head is a great find too. Not a common date.

:congrats:

Too bad that '16 didn't have a "D" on it..... then again, an "S" on the wheat would hurt either  I have found a couple of those large slugs and they read like a copper for me. :ticked:

Nice to see you had a good weekend, and good weather for the trek out to L.I. Interesting you were so close to the key varieties of the Merc and Wheatie. Like you attest, if someone had a pocket spill in 1916 then your chances of finding those two varieties would certainly be higher.
