We went to the fields and an old house today and while everybody found something Doug knocked it out of the park. The first field we tried is one that is filled with a lot of modern trash and so we haven’t hunted it very much in the past. It has given up a Large Cent, merchant token and a very nice Tombac button but not much else. Doug found the first and only silver to come from it when he got a Merc that was partially sticking out of the ground. A few wheats for him and one for 10 year old Malachi finished up the good finds. I got a couple of buckles and that was all for me. We then did a door knock, Doug hit a small area of about 5’ by 10’ and bam he quickly got a Silver Washington, a Merc and Malachi using his Tesoro Compadre got a hit and it was a very nice three ringer bullet. I got some clad and that was it. The next field has been very good to me in the past but today she was not giving anything to anybody except a Sunoco token to Doug. On the way back to home I said let’s hit this one field that Diane and I had hunted once for just a little bit. We had not put more than 20 minutes hunting it in the past since it is almost always super muddy. I told Doug lets give it a half hour since it looked drier today. Five minutes in I got a reasonable signal and dug a 1867 Indian…at least I did not have to take the “keeperless” ride of shame home! About a couple of minutes Doug called me over and pointed to the ground and there on top was an 1881 Indian! We decided to call it a day since we were all getting tired.

Nice '67 Indian  I love the early years....anything before 1880 is icing on the cake! It that a checkers piece? I used to play checkers a lot when I was a kid. You know them incredibly complicated games like pong, checkers, jacks :embarrassed: Nice hunt!

You had Pong George? :envious: Must have been a rich kid
Tony, It's nice that you get to share hunts with friends. Also nice when everyone goes home happy!

Nice finds and good to see you didn't get shut out. So funny how coins can show up at such variable depth. I read something once that suggested that natural processes really don't make objects sink that deep by themselves. It's really due more to accumulated detritus (or lack thereof) or human related activities.

Yes it is a checkers, Malachi gets just as excited finding something like that as he does on an old coin....ah youth so innocent....and so young!

Nice finds for everyone, Tony, and that 1867 Indian Head is terrific! That's not a common date IH at all.

:congrats:

Thanks Tony, I had to laugh as I told Doug in a paraphrase of what you say "I avoided the 'keeperless' ride of shame home"! :hystericallaugh:
