Windy Fields!

Monday and Tuesday were dryer and warmer here in Ohio and so we got out to the fields to do some detecting. On Monday we went to the “Eagle” field so named because I got my first…and only….Flying Eagle cent there. This field has been good to me with Seated Dime, Indian Head and gold ring there. The finds were not as old this time but still nice. I got a very nice solid 12-44 on the CTX and the Target Trace was indicating to me that most likely it was a coin. I dug and saw the silver and while anticipating a Seated or Barber at least I must say I was not disappointed in getting a nice Mercury dime. I then got a nice signal and dug my third WW1 era General Service button. After leaving there I stopped and talked to a farmer about another field to find out who was farming it, he told me and mentioned his field just a bit down the road had a house on it at one time and that we could detect. I had checked this area on the old maps before and they never showed a house there but taking him at his word we went and checked it out Tuesday. We found the site easy enough but the field still had corn stalks knee high so swinging the coil was a challenge. Also this is one of the most iron laden fields I have ever hunted a couple of finds were bare squeaks and the only way I could find them was to use the pinpoint button while looking at the TID to see a bare flash of a high conductive target. I was able to find a nice soap token that way as well as a suspender buckle. A nice brass door key was a solid signal that jumped out at me. It was difficult to step over the rows since 50 mph winds would almost take me off my feet and if you ever saw me you know they had to be strong to do that. I kept my eye on Diane to make sure she wasn’t sailing away on the wind!

Nice finds Tony! I really like hunting the fields and cow pastures, (unless their are cows in them) That token is pretty cool... Congrats on a sweet looking Merc!:groovy:
