Recently I had researched some areas and found a possible cellar hole area that I thought looked very promising. Turns out the land is on private property :bummer: However, after a week of hunting down the land owner, I was able to get the permission to metal detect the vast area. 94 acres to find some cellar holes. I was almost positive there would be at least 2 cellar holes in the area I was interested in. So I scooped Dave up and headed out at 5:30 to meet the land owner.

The owner was fantastic. He came out of his house with a land survey print of the 94 acres and pointed to a cellar hole he had marked on the map. It was in the exact area that Dave and I thought one would be. I asked if he knew of any others but he assured us that there was only the one with another structure near it. That structure turned out to be the barn foundation. It was an old site but to our surprise, some one poached this site already. It seems some one trespassed on this site and hit it pretty good.:girlcry: We only managed a few buttons so I told Dave we should look in another area on the property that we thought there should be another site. The land owner had already told us there was no other cellar holes but I wasn't convinced. About half mile further, we did find another hole:yes: and had at it. Again, the site had already been hit but this time they missed a Woods Hibernia 1724 Half Penny:cool:. It's in ruff shape but I'll take it. We may have found more keepers but the rain cut the hunt short and we got out of there at about 12:30 today.:badday:

Thanks everyone. Yeah Dan the copper is in ruff shape but I wasn't expecting much from a nearly 300 yr old copper coin.

Nice old half penny Todd. That puts that site back a bunch of years. Looks like it wasn't too worn out when it was lost. Another shoe buckle?:shocked03: On some of them shows, you could get a hundred bucks for one of those:lol:

Nice going with your instincts about that 2nd cellar hole. Poachers just piss me off. Glad the homeowner was cooperative, did you tell him about the second hole??

Nice copper, hope you can get back there for some more hunting.

Nice finds for sure. Isn't it funny how 1 really good keeper can make the whole day. Poachers surely can be frustrating. I'm convinced sometimes these sites are happened upon by hunters, who also like MD and sneak back in later on.
