Yesterday's colonial hunt with Del

We took a long ride to a site that has been good to Dan and me. All day hunt and let me tell you, an Etrac with the 18x15 SEF coil is brutal on the arm :lol: Man that thing is heavy, especially if you put some snow on top of the coil! Day started off slow, but finished strong for me. Only one button despite digging 20 shotgun shells. Some odds and ends and finally a 1802 Draped Bust large cent at around 6" and a monster 1826 Geo IV copper at only 5". If anyone has any doubt about the masking effect on targets, this one proves it. I would have never guessed a copper with the signal I barely received. Iron everywhere in and around the hole. I have detected that same spot many times and never heard it before. It was great to get out and enjoy a full days hunt.:happy:

man , i couldn't believe you detected all day with that Monster coil George , it needs its own set of wheels to move around on its own :lol:hows the arm today ??


well its my turn...

I returned the 12x10 s.e.f. coil i've been using from a friend , so i felt very inadequate with the old 950 standard coil on the dfx and was concerned about depth loss due to the few inches of icy snow we still had at this site. After some shallow "hooked" nails ,it was just the opposite for me i started popping targets very early on in a large field.

my first decent target was this ..

i at first though a larger decorated button but soon realized it was some type of hinged lid , i'm very curious as to what the couple is doing and represents:confused:

shortly after that i heard this target in about 6 inches of dirt and under two inches of snow and ice

I'm thinking its either a ladies hat or small sash buckle.

on my next target i was almost sure it was a copper and was just about ready to call Coinnut to rub :lol: it in but decided to recover it first and was surprised to see a large crotal bell .

its very crude with lots or small holes or unfinished casted areas and the letters on the bottom are H I. with no American makers with them initials it lead me to look up the British ones and they match to

other notable finds were a tiny brass woman's ring that may have had some kind of stone and this very decorated piece

and a very thin piece of brass in the shape of a cat that i was really surprised at how decorated it was with hand tooled markings , turns out the item is a pin on type brooch.

also i got one coin a 1876 Canadian large penny still soaking in some peroxide .

Thanks. Yeah, it must have had some significance, either the date or still true to the king. It must have been pretty heavy though.

I found the point with the gloves. But I must admit, I was more observant digging from then on :lol: We find them from time to time.

Angie trust me its not much to look at :lol:, in fact when i first pulled it out of the ground i thought it was a piece of wire. that was twisted around something at some point and it had a knot but it is actually a thin wire brass band with a very small setting. its far to frail and delicate to even clean .its in the picture with all the finds up top inside the iron hoop.

I know that feeling well. Just last weekend, I found what I thought was a shotgun minus the long barrel and the wooden stock. So much red clay/dirt. After cleaning off the dirt, my "gun" turned out to be a toy tractor minus the wheels. The steering column was minus the steering wheel, and turned upside down and combined with the seat, it looked like the trigger area of a gun! Happy and sad at the same time!
