View Full Version : Dec. cellar hunt w/Coinnut
Any detecting this late in the season is a real treat , but today was 25 degrees this morning and warmed up to a nice 37 . It was great to get out even though the finds were sparse . my best finds of the day was a toasty classic head large cent and the old padlock . I'm really hoping to get out once more before the end of the year. while the weather holds up.

Nice pad lock. Any date on that Classic head?? It was tough going, and time flew, but I did manage to get some keepers and a whole lot of shotgun shells. Ended up with a couple of buttons, a musket ball, a 1921 Wheat and the find of the day for me is a Lesche digger (possibly the one I lost 2 years ago??? :embarrassed: I think I have found everything I have lost now...so I am even :thumbsup01: That rose button looks familiar :thinkingabout:aye Dan? Was nice to get out, that's for sure.

Glad the weather is holding up so everyone can get out and soothe the "withdrawals". :)

Good looking hole. I bet that bit of snow on the ground made it easier to spot adjacent holes. Nice finds George, I especially like the digger. Dan doesn't want this year to end....hopefully your copper run will continue into the new year. Good job guys.
Drew , the cellar is a rare one because its has an "on grade" cabin site with chimney pile which is the original old house . on one side (left) of this there is the addition of the house a dug cellar and then on the other side (right) is a larger "newer" addition of the house with full cellar . the first picture up top shows both the doorway stones to the cabin part (closest) and newest addition of the house.this family was here a long long time and built the house larger as the family grew and prospered . George and i have found well over 30 coins here and hundreds of buttons and other relics here over the years we have detected it .
From the stamped W&Co. (Wilcox & Company) on the brass lock cover , dates it to about 1860 or just after from information i have found out about and a lot newer than i had first thought . :dontknow:

Wow, I was thinking earlier too. But it is still in the time frame from the small cents found there. So maybe the straight covers are newer than the more shaped covers.:thinkingabout:

Great bunch of find guys! Love the dusting of snow, very picturesque. Next week I'm guessing the ground in the woods will be frozen solid with the low temps we have coming!
HH in 2014!
