Silver From Town Common And Park

On Friday I was able to detect for a couple of hours late in the day at a local park. I picked up one silver dime, several old wheat cents, and a 1950's Federal Tires token.

Then this morning I met up with midas to detect at a town common. As we expected, the site was awash with many shallow clad coins and trash. Still, such sites can yield a few good targets if one works it patiently enough.

I managed four silver dimes from there, all old - two Seated Liberty dimes and two Barber dimes.

I also picked up four Indian Head cents, dated 1880, 1882, 1901, and 1909, as well as a 1906 Liberty nickel and several old wheat cents.

Then on my way home from the town common I stopped at a park I had not been to since April of last year and detected there for about 90 minutes. From that park I picked up four more silver coins - two mercury dimes and two Roosevelt dimes.

Lots of silver and some great looking IH's. I'd have the head lamp on and still be detecting!!! Lately your silvers are coming out with a lot of Sulfide on them (especially that 1914 Barber), is that from nearby trash or soil conditions?? The few silvers I've found come out pretty shiny in my area.

Angel I dont know how you do it but your finds really inspire me to keep trying. What is the average depth you find your silver in? Plus which programs do you prefer. I have the V3 and have found a couple of wheats in the last few days and 1 silver dime to date (1943 Merc) but I feel like im still not getting the hang of what targets to actually dig. I know it will take time but I get frustrated and it really bugs me. Thanks and keep digging as I enjoy seeing your latest finds and it gives me something to look forward to.

Thank you for the kind comment. Really, though, there is nothing I'm doing that cannot be replicated by those who invest time to learn their machines and who have come to understand their machine's 'language'. :yes:

I use a E-Trac, but there are several very experienced V3 users here. They have provided much information in the way of posts that would be of great benefit to those new to the V3. They would not hesitate to answer your questions either so don't be shy about approaching any of them. :thumbsup01:

I have been concentrating my efforts primarily at areas where trash tends to be abundant, so depth is not the major challenge I face. It is the trash. When working such sites I am finding that much of the silver is actually within reach of many detectors. They have been missed, though, due to the masking effect trash has on such coins. It is very important to know how the machine responds when detecting under such conditions and being able to interpret the signals it generates when over metal. Also, one must listen carefully to filter out via tone and visual display the good from the bad in order to reach the silver and other desirable targets.

You have an excellent machine. Take advantage of the experience and knowledge others have accumulated. It will go a long way in shortening the learning curve. :yes:

The silver with sulfide on them, like the above Barber dime, were found by the base of large trees and in areas where the soil tends to remain damp. :yes:

Nice looking old ladies :lol: :embarrassed: Them Seated are sweet. You have to have a bunch of Seated by now. These parks have so much potential. and they have waited patiently until technology caught up with them. Congrats on a great day of digging.
