I havent posted in a long while, but i'm still hunting the oldies. This morning's hunt was a pretty good one, so i just had to share.
i had hit this property earlier in the year, with dry conditions. found a few old pennies, and a V nic, but no silver. So after the recent rains we had here, it was time to hit it again. I'm glad i did !
First signal was an 1880 IH in decent shape, about 5 inches deep. Next hit was the 1911 V nickel at the same depth. After a couple of clad and 2 small fired bullets, i hit my second 50 centimes coin of the week. Dated 1903. Never dug one before, and hit 2 in 5 days. go figure.
10 minutes and 4 deep nails later, i get a screaming 50 cent signal, showing 4 inches deep. but i could tell it was shallower than that, so i said out loud to myself, no way this is a half, but i gotta dig it anyway. WRONG!!!
2 1/2 inches down, out pops the 1917 walker. i was shocked i tell ya. I also hit the 1935 merc at 4 inches just before leaving for home.
after another spent bullet, and one complete 22 caliber live round, i got a deep wheat about 5 inches down , 1917, but poor lincoln had been headshot again . This is my first shot coin i have ever dug.
Hunt totals are one rusted pocketknife, 3 spent bullets, one unfired 22 round, 3 wheats, (1917, 1911,and 1919. One V nic 1911, an 188o IH, a 50 centimes 1903,a 1935 merc, and a 1917 walker.
i took a pic of both of the 50 centimes i dug this week. 1903 today and a 1910 earlier in the week.
thanks for lookin and HH!
PS..........all these older coins, and STILL NO BARBER COINS!!!!!!!!!!!!what do i have to do to dig a barber dime or quarter ??
