Dirt Therapy

It's been one of those weeks at work and in general... so some nice time digging was badly needed. I stopped on the way home from work at the wooded spot I have been hunting lately. I was in such a rush to get to it that I forgot my hat and the bug spray in my car - big mistake! I stuck it out for maybe 10 minutes before the cloud of mosquitoes was just too much. So I headed back to the car, grabbed them both, and got back at it. Much better! I ambled around the woods for a while digging sparse signals and very much enjoying the time to myself. When all was said and done I had a few nice keepers, including a 1910 wheat, and 1943 war nickel, and old lead figurine (I assume he was riding a horse), a nice sterling ring, and an odd mangled item with an engraved J that I'm certain is silver. I'm not sure what the last item was exactly... any thoughts?

As always, it was great to get out. Time alone in the woods with my hands in the dirt is therapeutic to say the least.

I like that old lead figure (I hope he was riding a horse, because otherwise he looks, well, very odd :)

And that lead toy is very neat. It would be very interesting to get some history behind it.

That other silver item with the initial on it is a real mystery. I don't have a clue what it might be. Maybe some additional photos of it from different angles would help?

Could the engraved item be a decorative buckle of sorts? It's tough to tell from the picture whether this was an oval/circular pattern, or if there was a cross piece for a strap to loop over? Maybe for suspenders or some other item with a shoulder strap?

Imagine the image below is silver, engraved and looks just like your picture... LOL ::huh::

Nice finds! I know exactly what you mean. Many times In stead of going to a better producing spot I just go to the middle of nowhere and start digging holes. Sometimes a peaceful penny is better than a chaotic silver. :yes:
