My friend called yesterday to go arrowhead hunting in our fave field, we've been hunting now for years. She enticed me by telling me about the point and flint knife she found over the weekend. Before I left to meet her, I decided to google earth the farm, suspecting there was and sure enough there was an old farmhouse (since torn down). I knew the aerial photo was shot at least 7 yrs ago because we built our house then and the satellite pic is still the old farm... ramble ramble

Okay, so anyway lol I hunted the spot yesterday and got a signal for copper penny and dug a little piece of copper pipe. I tugged on it and up through the grass it came- it pulled up 5 ft, 10 ft with a few little tugs and then I had to dig a bit and tug in another direction- 15 ft, 20 ft... it was so fun!!! It went deeper into the ground and I broke it off, but will be back. I wish I had taken a pic of the copper coming up out of the ground- perhaps next time :) I folded it up into one ft increments and was able to stuff a gallon ziplock bag- it weighs so heavy! Probably about 8 lbs maybe? Feels like a gallon of milk...

Here's the other stuff I found out there- the pig is cool (hoping it's silver  how do I tell?). Then I went to my mom's where I grew up and found the sterling silver ring (has W with S stamp next to Sterling)and 5 wheaties dating 1941, 50,52,56 &58. As well as a '60 and two '61's THere's gotta be silver!!! House was built in 1952....I will not give up! Oh no arrowheads this time. I'll be sharing my collection soon in 'off topic section'.

rofl Good 'ol 3 stooges... I'm old enough to remember watching them (my mom never liked them- so violent) So what surprises me when they tore this house down that they didn't salvage the copper. Seems to be common sense... wonder how much more there is. thanks for saying hi~!

wondering if the house/farm will show up or just take to google earth site...

Hey that's not fair.... you had help digging. I want someone to do my digging lol You seem to be doing better at copper recovery than at coin hunting. They're gonna start asking you, where did you get all this copper mam rofl Copper scrap is gonna pay for that machine  That looks like a prime field to hunt. Something about fresh turned dirt  Can't wait to see your points collection, I bet it's nice. Hard to tell on the pig, but I would check the edges very carefully to see if there is any other metal there, and also check how high it registers on your machine. If it's in the quarter / half dollar range, and you can't see any other colors on the edges, then maybe lol I think they sell some acid test kits and that's the only way to tell for sure, but it looks good from here. That button looks older too. Iron back or all brass? Nice hunt, but remember, OSHA laws state that anyone under 3 feet tall and does your digging has to have an ice cream break at the end of their shift :embarrassed: Just pulling for the little guy lol

I'm not sure if it's a button- I don't know what it is! Look at the size of it compared to penny. Did buttons used to be that big? It's all rusted iron on the back, brass front. I'll get a pic of the back of it. Found it in front yard of a1700's church near my mom's house last week. The pig may very well be silver! I think I'm gonna go ahead and invest in a acid test for silver. lol on the OSHA laws! Btw, I asked Logan if he wants a metal detector for Christmas. He got wide-eyed, smiled and said okay mommy with the cutest tone. Yep- now if I can find a miniature one for a 2 yr old! lol

Buttons got pretty big, but now that I look at it near the pennies, I think it's a horse rosette. We have found buttons that are almost as big as a silver dollar and that pattern is a popular one, but if it's thick, it's probably a rosette. Nice find! A metal detector for kids? Hmmmm..... Probably a V3i or E Trac rofl

I've lived in Wisconsin for 7 years now, but I'm originally from Charleston, SC. If you average that out geographically...we probably have about the same twang. lol
