A buddy of mine had lost his keys while hiking to his trail camera so I figured I would try to help him so I went to his site which is an area I have been dying to hit. We retraced his steps in the snow 2-3 times with no luck. He was then satisfied that the keys were not there and then told me they may possibly be at another location... I was dissapointed that I didn't find the keys but he then offered to let me hit up the area since I had about an hour before I had to go to work. I did alot of exploring trying to cover alot of area in a short amount of time. I came up with the typical finds, shotgun shells, bullets etc. about 15 minutes before I had to leave, I got a good hit definitely not in the shot gun shell or lead category, yet not in the silver, or usual copper category. I dug about 4-5 inches and out pops a smaller disk with a beautiful green tinge dotting the edges. I first thought it was an indian head penny, but a second look definitely said no. Turns out it was a 1774 George III Farthing!!! Unfortunately I didn't find anything else before I had to go to work, but it was definitely worth it. Hope to hit the area again soon, but looks like it may be awhile with snow and cold temps...

Nice find ! How can you tell it's a farthing ? Is it smaller than a King George 3rd or does it say something to ID it as a Farthing ?

Thanks everyone, I went out to the same site again today and didn't pull anything crazy. Right off the bat I pulled a 1917 wheatie and a small late 1800's buckle and an older jefferson nickel. Went a loooong time with just getting shot gun shells and came upon a good hit as it started snowing and pulled a nice musket ball.. Now were supposed to get 4+ inches of snow tonight so no detecting for me till it melts some... Del (Dan) I have been good, just super busy... Did you get my messages:huh: If not pm me with your email address so I can send you something...
