Last night I was doing some research with my maps and marked two potential cellar hole sites. I was planning on taking a friend along but like an idiot, I left my cell phone in my pants and forgot to remove it before doing the wash. Welp... you guessed it, I put it through the washing machine cycle and no longer have a working cell phone :shocked04:verreaction: Unfortunatley I had no way to contact my friend so I decided to search for the cellar holes on my own. Got up bright and early and went to find the first location. I knew it was deep in the woods and the town it was in still had a good amount of snow on the ground so I decided to move on two my second location.

I found the spot within 15 mins of leaving my car and started to goto work. Less than five mins into the hunt I dug my first traget which turned up as what I think is a King George II (young head) Half penny. After that, I only dug a few relics and in an hour and 30 mins of hunting I started feeling ill so I decided to cut it short today. Hopefully i can get back there soon.

I didn't know what kind of copper I found until I got home. I started with a dry toothbrush and then went to work with a dry toothpick. The coin has very heavy crust and dirt build up on the reverse but I am hoping to get a date when I make an attempt on that side. I probably wont go any further on the cleaning process as it seems that the coin is very pitted and pourous under the patina >:{

I was able to remove most of the crust and build up on the reverse with tooth pick and brush. Just as i feared, very pitted with some good areas. I think the date is 1730 something?

:congrats: :stretcher: Nice find! The odd thing is that it looks odd. The rim looks really thick and the George Bust looks different than normal, no? It looks like one of , what do they call them ? A Cartwheel? That would be George the 1st though, right ?
Dan what do you think, since your the expert? Unless it's just a real strong strike. I almost thought the first pic looked like the bust of Washington.
Maybe a little more cleaning will help, watch the date area though. That could be a crucial part of the puzzle. It could be a counterfeit also, who knows.
Anyway nice Coin and a really cool looking Cellar Hole.

It threw me off when I noticed the high rim and the bust looked like a Washington coin at first with the dirt on it. I got excited but, when I started cleaning it it was clear as day that it's a KG II young head
